What a Way to Make a Winning! USC Wins 9-5

It was 10 until 3 in the morning when the high drama ended, but it ended with the Gamecocks on top and sitting pretty in the SEC Tournament's winners' bracket. Tied at 5-5 going into the 11th inning, USC took the lead on a wild pitch, added another run on a bases loaded walk, and then scored two more runs on a double by Justin Dalles to take a wild 9-5 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide.

South Carolina looked to be in a heap of trouble as the SEC tourney nightcap began, as the Alabama team came out blazing, striking for three first inning runs and adding a fourth in the fourth, and holding USC scoreless until the 5th when DeAngelo Mack finally drove two runs in. Then in the sixth, freshman Adam Matthews picked an optimal time from a Gamecock standpoint to hit his third home run of the season, a three run blast that put the Gamecocks on top of the Crimson Tide 5-4.

But Alabama tied it up in the bottom of the inning on a monster blast over the center field fence by SEC player of the year Kent Matthes to draw even. And even it stayed for the remaining three regulation innings and an extra inning thrown in for good measure until the Gamecock bats broke the game open with four runs in the 11th and broke the backs of the Alabama team and the hearts of the Alabama fans who had stayed to watch their team battle.

The win gives USC off until Thursday's nightcap game against Vanderbilt at 9:30 pm Eastern, while Alabama has to get up to play LSU, who lost to Vandy, at 3:30 pm.
