After making his first visit to the South Carolina campus for the Gamecocks' first annual OL/DL Camp Saturday Weddington HS DT Darius Kilgo went home impressed with what he saw.
"I liked it a lot," Kilgo said. "I just liked the campus and liked the coaches. I had a good time at the camp. I just got the chance to learn a lot of things, techniques and just a lot of fundamentals. I think it was a great experience of teaching and learning process."
Most of that learning came from his time working with USC defensive line coach Brad Lawing.
"It was a great experience," the 6-3, 303-pounder said. "He's a high-intensity coach. And he expects a lot out of his players; I like that about him."
Kilgo, who registered 83 tackles, five sacks and three forced fumbles last season, was also able to spend time with his recruiter of record, new running backs coach Jay Graham.
"He's a good coach, too. He's a great guy to talk to. He's just a great recruiter. He knows how to talk you into things like [about] South Carolina and stuff. I'm just looking forward to getting up there some more."
Kilgo plans a return trip to USC for the second annual Gamecock Showcase Camp in July.
Graham and Lawing's efforts have the Gamecocks in good shape with the three-star prospect.
"I would say South Carolina [leads], just because I've been to the campus. It was a great atmosphere. But I can't really give a final answer because I want to get to the other campuses too."
Kilgo plans trip to UNC June 15, Tennessee June 18-20 and NC State June 24.
Tennessee and ECU (along with USC) round out Kilgo's top three.
"Well Tennessee I'm supposed to be going up there with my coach because he's supposed to be working the camp. I've been waiting to get up there for a while. I've been talking to my recruiter, and he's just telling me how I need to get up to the campus, a great atmosphere and a great campus to see. I'm just excited to get up there and meet the d-line coach, Coach O and Lane Kiffin. I'm just excited to work with the d-line coach."
Kilgo also plans a trip to ECU in July.
"I've just been talking to my coach and he was saying how they're having an o-line/d-line camp and he was just saying how I would be a great prospect for their team. I'm just looking forward to working for their d-line coach too."
On top of offers from his three favorites, Kilgo also holds tenders from Maryland, Illinois and Minnesota.
