Phil Kornblut of The South Carolina News and Sports Network and host of Sports Talk, the parent show of Sports Talk Gameday, is reporting that Charles Silas is now solidly committed to the Gamecocks. The battle for this massive 6-6 255 4.6 super-talent is now officially over.
Silas originally signed with USC out of high school in Georgia but had to make a pit stop along the way at Georgia Military Academy. From there he became fair game once again and the offers poured in. Roberts held his ground and overcame a strong push from the Arkansas Razorbacks to retain the services of the highly touted and coveted Peach State Pass Rusher.
According to Kornblut, "GMA JC DC Taylor Burks said Monday afternoon (that) DE Charles Silas is once again firm with his commitment to USC and will sign with the Gamecocks Wednesday morning. ... Burks had Silas with him at the time he made his comments and asked Silas to confirm his plans to sign with USC, which he did."
This appears to have ended all speculation and seals the deal on a fine defensive end class for the Gamecocks this season.
