Gamecocks set to enjoy weekend off

The Gamecocks had another light practice on Thursday, this time working out inside Williams-Brice Stadium as they prepared for next weekend's showdown with the Clemson Tigers. The team will take this weekend off before returning to a normal practice schedule on Monday night.

Although it was a short practice again, as has been the theme this week, Spurrier said he is happy as the Gamecocks head into the off weekend.

"It was a good practice, we had the team picture today," said Spurrier. "Beautiful day. Hopefully all of our guys will be safe over the weekend. Most of our guys are going to class tomorrow. We've got some important classes, tests, and all that. So only about half of the team is leaving tonight."

Often many forget that the players have strict class schedules as well, and Spurrier stated that those who needed to be in class tomorrow would be there. Players and coaches alike will no doubt have their eye on Clemson this weekend, who faces Virginia with a chance to clinch a spot in the ACC Championship game.

The Head Ball Coach also said that his team will begin a normal week on Monday, and begin putting in most of the game plan at that time.

"We've done a little bit (of the game plan)," said Spurrier. "We do our normal week starting on Monday."

Spurrier was especially appreciative of the fan support over the last couple of weeks. The Gamecocks had one of their best crowds ever against Florida and need another huge effort from the fan base to have a big home field advantage against the Tigers in the season finale.

"(We'll) be ready to go on Monday. (We're) getting ready for hopefully our best game of the year. I know the fans are pumped up. We appreciate what the fans have done, especially the last game. We're going to try our best."
