Couch Updates His Recruitment

As one of the top JUCO prospects in the country, Garden City DT Maurice Couch has BCS conference offers pouring in from schools all over the country. With football season fast approaching, Couch reveals that of those offers, he does have a couple of schools on top and a few others that have his attention.

The 6-foot-2, 295 pound Maurice Couch currently holds offers from South Carolina, Arkansas State, Eastern Michigan, Kansas, Kansas State, Marshall, Ole Miss, Oklahoma State, Southern Cal, Tennessee, Troy and UAB. Couch also says he is getting heavy interest from Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Auburn at this time.

Of the schools that have offered the talented defensive lineman, Couch says two stand out above the rest at the moment. "Kansas and Oklahoma State probably stand out the most at this time", said Couch. "I'm just feeling those two schools the most right now."

One other advantage that Kansas and Oklahoma State may have over some of Couch's other suitors is that they are both members of the Big 12 conference. "I'm starting to feel like I want to play in the Big 12", said Couch. "I don't know why, but something just excites me about the Big 12."

The Jayhawks may have the upper hand on the Cowboys at this time as well too, as Couch plans to visit Kansas this weekend. Couch says, "This weekend I'm going to visit Kansas and I've been looking forward to this visit for a while. I feel like Kansas has a lot to offer me."

When asked if any schools closer to Florida, where he's originally from have attracted his interest at all, Couch said, "Ole Miss, Tennessee, South Carolina, and North Carolina are all schools that I'm very interested in."

It appears from that group, that one school in particular has grabbed the attention of Couch more than the others. So much so that Couch says he definitely has plans to visit there in the future. "October 9th I'm going to visit South Carolina when they play Alabama at home", said Couch. "I'm intrigued by South Carolina because of Coach Spurrier, and them being in the SEC helps too."

Some may wonder if things were to come down to a decision between playing in the Big 12 or the SEC, in which conference would Couch choose to play? Couch says, "At this point, if it came down to which conference I want to play in, I would say the Big 12."

Couch says he's undecided as to when he wants to make a decision at this point, only stating that, "I'll know when I've found the right school."

Whatever school ends up landing Couch will add a confident and talented prospect to their team. When asked to describe himself as a player and the type of prospect his school of choice is going to get, Couch said, "I'm very versatile, athletic, and flexible. I'm very quick and fast off the ball and I feel like I'm unblockable one on one. I also feel like I'm very coachable as well."

After redshirting last fall, when Couch graduates next May he will have 3 years to play 3 for the school he signs with.
