Closing in on a Decision

Blythewood (S.C.) RB Brandon Wilds hasn't been one to name a public leader lately, but the big back says he's closing in on a decision soon. Look inside for the update from

The 6-1, 218-pound Brandon Wilds says that he will make a decision before his first game.

"It's coming down to a good decision and I'm a December graduate," he says. "So it's coming down to the wire."

Wilds, who runs the 40-yard-dash in 4.5 seconds, has a top four of South Carolina, Maryland, Illinois and ECU, in no particular order.

Wilds gave his thoughts on the four programs.

Illinois: "Ron Zook and Coach Smith, the running backs coach, I spoke with them, and they seem like nice people."

ECU: "Well I haven't visited East Carolina yet, but I know a former player (Leonard Paulk) that plays there and we speak a lot. He tells me about East Carolina."

Maryland: "It's a good school. It's an up and (coming) program. They were pretty (average) last year but they're coming up."

South Carolina: "Well, of course, it's my hometown so I'm used to the atmosphere, the fans."

He hopes to visit Illinois and ECU before making a decision.

Wilds, a frequent visitor to the Carolina campus, was back at Williams Brice Stadium recently for the Gamecock Showcase Camp.

"I had a good time working with [running backs] Coach (Jay) Graham for the first time in drills," he said. "So it was nice."

Wilds says that he and Graham have developed a good relationship.

"We're close," Wilds says. "I keep in contact with him about every week, so it's going good."

Wilds, who admits that he's pretty much made up his mind, says that his relationship with each coaching staff is the biggest factor in the school he has chosen.

"Just my connection with my coaches," he says. "I've always had a close connection with my coaches so it's just the connection."
