Minter Narrowing Focus

Dave Odom focuses on bringing in scorers for next season - and it starts now ...

Fork Union Military is on break this week and that means there is time for power forward Donte Minter to reflect on his college choices. Last year, he signed with Appalachian State out of West Rowan High in North Carolina. This season, after a fifth year, he's got even higher aspirations.

Minter is presently mulling over overtures from Virginia, South Carolina and Marquette. Behind the scenes we hear Virginia is making a move. Minter didn't refute that speculation. "They're pretty high up there. It's the ACC. They're losing Travis Watson and I think I would have a good chance to come in and play."

In the last few days, Minter visited South Carolina for a game. "They want me to come sometime in the next two weeks," Minter said of a possible official visit. When he was in Columbia the other day, Paulius Joneliunas was also on campus. "I think they want both of us. It's close to home and I Iiked the campus. The arena was great."

Tom Crean was recently down to see Minter and the Golden Eagles could be in line for an official visit. "I told them I would take a visit," Minter said. "I know they are losing big man Robert Jackson. They recruited me a little last year."

In a related note, Minter's high school – West Rowan – plays for its second straight state title on Saturday. West Rowan has not lost a game since Minter's junior season at the school.
