Jefferson's star receiver Andre Davis finished his senior season in style, as the 6'1, 180 pound receiver racked up over 1,000 yards receiving and 14 touchdowns in route to a perfect season and a state championship berth. In the big game Davis pulled down a 10-yard touchdown reception while helping Jefferson to a 44-34 win in the Class 3A State Championship, the first ever for the school.
"It feels real good getting a championship ring," said Davis. "I felt we should have won it last year, but that started things in motion, and gave us the drive to win it this year. So that feels real good for me and I'm happy for all my teammates."
With the elusive state championship achieved, the Jefferson stud receiver, has turned his attention on recruiting and has a big official visit to the home Bulls on tap.
"Friday I'm going to USF," said Davis. "I'm real excited to finally take my official visit."
Davis played his prep ball just down the road from USF, and knows plenty about the Bulls, but is looking forward to finding out more about the coaches and players this weekend.
"I just want to find out more stuff about the school really," said Davis. "Get to see all the coaches, the players, and see how I fit in with everything. That's it really, that and just have a good time."
While on the visit, Davis said he'll be hosted by Bulls receiver Sterling Griffin and is looking forward to
"I spoken to Sterling several times, he seems real cool," said Davis. "I'm looking forward to hanging with all the players actually."
Davis will be among over twenty visitors this weekend, and is among several local stars that are taking their official visits as well.
Being so close to USF, there isn't much that Davis doesn't already know about the Bulls football program, but is more focused on the interaction between the players.
"I just want to see if how I'll bond with the coaches and the players," said Andre. "That's the main thing I'm looking for."
Davis did say he was able to watch the Bulls beat Clemson in the Meinekee Bowl, and was impressed.
"Oh yeah I definitely watched the game it was a great win," said Davis. "They played their butts off, and it just shows they can play with anybody. B.J. did his thing and helped lead them to the win, and that was great."
After his trip to Tampa, Davis said he has two other visits lined up for the next two weeks.
"I'm supposed to go to Rutgers on the 21st, and if the weather calms down, then to West Virginia on the Jan 28," said Davis."I just want to see who I fit in with the best, where I can get on the field the earliest, and who is has a good business management program."
