This past weekend USF hosted their first Junior Day for the 2012 recruiting class, and one of those attendees was 4-star Lakewood defensive end Dante Fowler, the 6-foot-3, 237 who's committed to FSU last season. After recording 20 sacks, 33 tackles for loss, 107 tackles, and five fumble recoveries as a junior, Fowler is being recruited as one of the top defensive ends in this class, and is still checking out his options. Fowler attended the Bulls event and then went to practice with Team Tampa for the upcoming 7-on-7 tourney.
"I'm still open," said Fowler. "I'm still going to take my visits, still go to some junior days, and still talk to some coaches. I know I'm going to be ready by February 2nd."
The local stand-out had a real good time on his visit, and got to spend time with Coach Holtz and the coaching staff.
"It was pretty good," said Fowler. "I got to see all of the coaches on the staff. I got to talk to Coach Holtz for like a half hour, and I also got to talk to Coach Hargreaves, so that was good. I got to mingle with some of the players from Plant City at the basketball game and got meet the defensive coordinator and his family, so we had a real good time today."
"They got a lot of new stuff," said Fowler. "I like their new turf field and can't wait to play on it when we go to the USF Sling & Shoot. They got a real good program coming up, so they're going to be pretty good."
Fowler plans to visit Florida next Junior and then will return to USF in March
