Pinellas Park's Jeremi Powell, a 6-foot-2, 196 pound linebacker/receiver has seen his recruiting interest spike recently, and on Wednesday the Pinellas standout will visit USF to check out the hometown Bulls.
"Recruiting has been good, recruiting is great," said Powell. "Florida offered and South Carolina offered on Friday, Purdue and Iowa State offered earlier."
Another Florida school has also been showing Powell a lot of interest, and that the hometown Bulls.
"USF has been showing me a lot of interest," said Powell. "I was going to go there for Junior Day, but I had to take the ACT, but I plan on visiting there on Wednesday."
The 6-foot-2, 196-pound versatile prospect was a two way player for Pinellas Park. On offense he lined up at receiver and running back and had 22 catches for 478 yards with 4 touchdowns and added 194 yards rushing on 27 carries. On defense he played outside linebacker and a little defensive end, and racked up the stats.
"I don't even know how many tackles I had or tackles for a loss, but I know I had 15 sacks," said Powell. "I also had four forced fumbles, and 3 fumble recoveries. I scored two defensive touchdowns, one was a fumble recovery that I scooped up and ran 76 yards and the other was an interception that I ran back for about 20 yards."
Powell has been garnering plenty of interest, but says a few school are recruiting him the hardest.
"I'd say the hardest is USF, they're recruiting me the hardest. The Gators keep messaging me on Facebook, so they're pushing hard, but they already offered so they just want me to come and visit. Then I'd say it's Iowa State."
Powell is still just a junior but knows what makes him a good football player, and what he's looking for in a school.
"I don't give up, and I fight to the finish," said Powell. "I just want to go where I fit in best," said Powell. "I'm looking for a little competition, I like to be challenged."
After visiting USF on Wednesday Powell plans on visiting Florida this weekend, and may have more visits on the horizon as more schools are showing interest.
"Both Florida State and UCLA have invited me to come and take visits," said Powell, who likes the newfound attention. "It feels great just to have all these colleges want me, it means a lot."
With it only being February you can expect Powell's offer list to grow exponentially over the next few months.Watch highlight Video
