Plant City DB Gaining Interest Planning Visit

Plant City defensive back Sam Green is one of several talented rising seniors in the Bay area. The 6-foot-1, 190 pound prospect has somewhat flown under-the-radar, but with one BCS offer already in hand, expect that to change very soon.

Defensive back Sam Green is one of several talented rising seniors at Plant City HS, and at 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, Green showed versatility lining up at several positions as a junior.

"I played many positions last season. I played linebacker, corner, safety and receiver," said Green. "On defense I had 111 tackles, 4 interceptions, with two that I returned for scores. I also had 3 forced fumbles and one fumble recovered. On offense I had 10 receptions for 110 yards. On special teams I had 2 blocked punts."

He lined up everywhere, but Green said that most schools are recruiting him at cornerback, and he's been garnering some interest.

"I have one offer from Rutgers right now," said Green. "I have a few other schools that are close to offering, USF, Georgia Tech, and Purdue. Texas Tech and Tennessee have also been showing interest."

Plant City is only 20 minutes away from USF and Green says he knows a good amount about the Bulls program.

"I follow them and they're coming up," said Green. If they offer and I do choose to go there, I feel like I would fit in."

USF is also recruiting several of Greens teammates, Bennie Coney, Lamarlin Wiggins, and Dazmond Patterson. The three all attended USF's Junior Day two weeks ago, but green couldn't attend.

"I was supposed to go to USF for Junior Day but I had to take the ACT," said Sam. "I do plan on going there in March."

The foursome does talk about the possibility of playing together at the next level.

"Yeah we trying to look at schools that we all could get together," said Green. "Especially me and Dazmond, were cousins and we want to stay together so we can push ourselves."

Green said he has put on about 20 pounds since last season and is working hard to improve for his senior year.

"I've been hitting the weights hard," said Green. "I'm working on my coverage skills and open field tackling."

With one BCS offer in hand, expect Green to land many more in the coming months, so stay tuned with as we keep you updated on Sam Green's recruitment and the rest of the class of 2012.
