Spring Quick Hitter with Sterling Griffin

USF Wide receiver Sterling Griffin was expected to have a breakout season for the Bulls in 2010, but an ankle injury in the summer forced him to miss the season. USFNation caught up with Griffin to get his thoughts on being back at spring practice, the rehab process, the gains he's made since last year, what he did to keep sharp and more.

Last year, wide receiver Sterling Griffin was expected to have a breakout season for the Bulls but unfortunately an ankle injury in the summer forced him to miss the season. As everyone knows, wide receiver was one of the weak spots on the Bulls team and not having a guy like Griffin out there hurt the team. With Griffin being 100% healthy and ready to go, his return strengthens the unit and adds another playmaker into the mix. USFNation caught up with Griffin to see how things are going for him early on in the spring.

What's it like being back at Spring Practice after missing last season?
It just feels real good to back out here, reunited with my teammates, running around and playing the game of football.

I know it's early on but what is the team's attitude out there like?
The attitude is there, we're just a little rusty right now. We're just trying to get the rust off. I mean everybody knows that in the beginning of Spring it's going to be a little difficult to put the pads on. Right now, we're just getting everything going, getting the groove back. Everything should be clicking in the next few practices or so.

Talk about the rehabbing process, how was that experience? Did having a guy like A.J. Love to rehab with make it easier or helpful?
Rehabbing with A.J., we both just pushed each other because we knew how bad we both wanted to be back on the field. We pushed each other hard during rehab, making sure we each were there on time, doing whatever we could to get right and get healthy. It makes it really easier with a teammate; we competed at things like squatting because we both had lower body injuries. We just competed at things, made fun at it, so we both can get back healthy.

What type of physical gains have you made from last season?
I put on some pounds, gained some weight and got a lot stronger. I got my lower body stronger; I learned a lot of technique things with squatting and a lot of technique things that are useful on the field. Right now, I'm weighing 192 lbs.

What type of things did you do to keep your football acumen sharp?
I just watched a lot of film, getting in the film room with the coaches outside of practice, and coming in on my own to watch film. I was catching a lot of balls, and doing ball drills using tennis balls. I'm a receiver so I like the ball in my hands.

Are you 100% ready to go right now?
Yeah, I'm full go. I'm doing everything I can, whatever the coaches need me to do, running routes and doing whatever I can to help the team.

What are your goals for the spring?
My goals for the upcoming spring is just to be accountable and more reliable for my teammates on the offensive side of the ball and do whatever I can to help the team and win a Big East Championship.
