Chris Bivins, the 5-foot-11, 170 pound standout cornerback prospect at Gainesville HS keeps on racking up the offers. Bivins is up to four with more on the way and this past weekend Bivins took a trip to USF to check out the program that extended his first offer, spending three days on campus with his family and got to check out the Bulls Green & Gold Game.
"I took a weekend trip to South Florida and it went great," said Bivins. "We came in on Friday. My sister had an unofficial visit to USF for volleyball, because they offered her. We were there Saturday and Sunday too."
While there Bivins got to spend time with all of the Bulls coaches and find out more about how they do things.
"I pretty much talked with the whole coaching staff, Coach smith, coach McGeoghan, Coach Holtz, and got to meet the new DB assistant (Byron) Thomas, and he was real cool," said Bivins. "I was being a student and asking a lot of questions. Trying to see how I fit into their program, how they play defense and how they their corner backs play. We talked about what kind of defensive schemes they run and they were explaining their drills and things I can work on during my season."
Bivins left campus Saturday to compete for his track meet and ran his personal best in the 100 meter.
"I had to leave for my track meet this weekend and ran the 100 and the 4x100," said Bivins. "I ran an 11.1 in the 100 and I'm getting close to the 10's."
After the track meet Bivins came back to USF in time to catch their Green & Gold spring game.
"I got there a bit late because of my track meet, but I got to watch most of the spring game and really liked it," said Bivins. "I like how they differentiate the DBs and how they change up their coverage's to keep the quarterback off balance."
"I saw they had a few interceptions in the game," said Bivins. "I saw number 6 (Kayvon Webster) he ran a pick back about 50-60 yards for a score, and I was like that's what I'm talking about."
Bivins has been to USF several times, but did get to learn a few more things and bond with the coaching staff some more.
"I got to meet the volleyball team, and the coach told us about all the new stuff they're building for them, and for USF athletics, but other than that I just got to spend time with the coaches," said Bivins. "I got to hang with them, see how they are and build a relationship with them. It was real good."
On the recruiting front, the Gainesville corner prospect has seen his recruitment start to take off.
"I received my fourth offer from Memphis the other day," said Bivins. "The offers are coming in and it feels pretty good. I love it. I like Memphis it a lot and they have a good program. I'll have to do my research some more but I know there a school is an outstanding one."
The 5-foot-11, 170 pound prospect now has offers from USF, Utah, Memphis and FIU and other schools are showing interest with several that could be close to pulling the trigger.
With several new offers Bivins currently has a short list of schools that are standing out to him at this stage in the process.
"It's still the same. USF, Florida, and Arkansas," said Bivins "Those are the schools I like and USF is my leader."
Bivins talks about why the Bulls are atop his leader board.
"I like everything about USF," said Bivins. "The relationship I have with the coaches, I love the team, the players, the coaches, and I love the city of Tampa, and everything about USF. I can see myself playing as a Bull."
"USF is coming up and that's why I love them so much," said Bivins. "They're doing so much around campus and it's not just football they're building up. Every program they have is coming up."
Bivins will be busy with track meets and also plans on going to several camps and may catch another spring games coming up.
"I got districts for track this weekend, and I don't know if I'll take any more visits, but someone from Miami asked me to go to their spring game this Saturday, but I'm not sure because I also have a camp in Tallahassee this Saturday. This summer I'll probably go to camps everywhere in Florida and then go to some out of state schools as well. I know I'm going to the USF SuperBull camp. I'll be there for sure."
