McWilliams up to 18 offers, Claims No Leader

One of the hottests cornerbacks in the southeast is Lovejoy's Rico McWilliams. The 6-foot, 180-pounder has seen his recruitment sky rocket this spring. On Tuesday he received offer number 18 and claims no leader. Read on for all the details and see where the Bulls stand.

One of the top cornerbacks in Georgia is Lovejoy's Rico McWilliams. The 6-foot, 180-pounder has seen his recruitment sky rocket this spring as a carousel of college coaches went through Hampton and offered the stand-out corner. On Tuesday he received offer number 18.

"I just got offered by the University of Illinois," said McWilliams. "On Monday Ole Miss offered me. I just feel very blessed right now to have all these schools looking at me."

With the two new offers McWilliams is closing in on 20 offers, with the majority being from BCS teams including programs such as South Florida, West Virginia, Kentucky, Wake Forest, Arkansas, Mississippi State, Nebraska, South Carolina, Pittsburgh, Virginia, Purdue, Cincinnati, Vanderbilt, as schools that have offered. And more could be on the way as McWilliams seems to be getting offers on almost a daily basis.

"There were so many coaches coming by this spring that it was hard to keep track," said McWilliams. "I think there could be more close to offering. I just don't know who will be next."

For several months McWilliams has said that South Florida, the team that offered him first was his leader, but has backed off that statement.

"I don't have a leader or a top five right now," said McWilliams. "I like everybody and I'm wide open right now. I like all the schools right now."

McWilliams doesn't claim a current leader, but says the Bulls are still very much on his mind.

"I still like South Florida a lot," said McWilliams. "I'm still real cool with the coaches. Coach Holtz, Coach Shank, and Coach Smith, I still talk with them every week."

"They were the first to offer, and I remember that," McWilliams said. "When I went down there I had a good visit there and loved it. I love their coaching staff and I have a real good relationship with those guys."

At one point the stand-out corner prospect seemed ready to make an early commitment, but that is no longer the case.

"I was going to do it early, but now I'm not going to pull the trigger so quickly," said McWilliams. ‘I want to check out all my options first."

"I don't know what I'm going to do now," said McWilliams. "I got to sit down and talk with my family and my coaches and see what the best option for me is."

McWilliams has already visited South Florida, Clemson, and Vanderbilt, and is planning a host of summer visits to help find out more about the programs that offered./p>

"I'm going to try and see as many of the schools that have offered me as I can," McWilliams said. "This Friday I'm going to South Carolina then I'm probably going to see Mississippi State and Kentucky, but I'm not sure yet. I'm going to try to go down to South Florida. I don't know if I'll make the camp on the 25th because I got something with my team, but I told coach I'll definitely get down there sometime in June."

McWilliams said he may not see everybody, but will see the schools he likes the most and then will begin the process of narrowing things down.

"After I take all my summer visits I'll know a lot more," said McWilliams. "I want to have a top five by the time the season starts. Then I'll take my official visits and probably decide sometime during the season. I don't have an exact timetable for when I'll do it right now."
