The USF 2011 non-conference men's basketball schedule was announced on Wednesday and it includes eight teams that made the 2010-11 postseason.
With the Bulls home court, the USF Sun Dome in the midst of a $35.6 million renovation, the Bulls will play its 2011-12 home games at several different venues, including the St. Pete Times Forum, the University of Tampa and the Lakeland Center.
Stan Heath and South Florida will open the non-conference season with two home games in the 2011 Basketball Hall of Fame Tip-Off Tournament, hosting Vermont on Nov. 12 at the University of Tampa, the Catamounts went 23-9 last season and made the NIT. The Bulls then go against Marist on Nov. 14 at the St. Pete Times Forum. The Bulls then travel to the Lakeland Center to play Florida Southern on Nov. 16.
The Bulls then hit the road for a pair of games at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Conn. USF goes up against Old Dominion, a team that lost to Butler in the first round of the NCAA Tournament On Nov. 19. The Bulls then face either Kentucky or Penn State on Nov. 20. Kentucky made it to the NCAA Final Four, losing to National Champion Connecticut, and Penn State also made the Tournament.
USF then host two home games against Georgia Southern on Nov. 23 at the St. Pete Times Forum, a team they beat 76-63 win last season and Florida Atlantic on Nov. 26 at University of Tampa, a team they lost to in the postseason NIT, 50-42, and then travel to Virginia Commonwealth, a Final Four team on Nov. 30. Last season the Bulls won an overtime victory over VCU (60-59).
The Bulls open December on Dec. 3 game at the Allen Field House against the Kansas Jayhawks, a team that was 35-3 last season and made it to the Elite 8. USF then hosts the Florida A&M Rattlers on Dec. 11 at University of Tampa, then travel to Auburn on Dec. 15. The Bulls beat the Tigers, 61-49, in Tampa last season.
USF closes out the non-conference schedule against Cleveland State, a team that played in the 2011 NIT at the St. Pete Times Forum on Dec. 19. Then travel to to Hattiesburg to play the Southern Miss Golden Eagles on Dec. 22.
The complete 2011-12 BIG EAST Conference schedule will be announced later this fall
