The USF class of 2011 has arrived on campus and USFNation had a chance to catch up with the incoming signees and their plans since National Signing Day. In our last entry we spoke with Lincoln High School DB Chris Garye.

In this entry we bring an interview with Evans High School offensive tackle Darrell Williams. Williams was a four-year letterman at Evans. He earned first-team all-Central Florida and all-Orange County as a senior. Williams was also tabbed honorable mention all-metro. He was invited to play in the Central Florida All-star game. Williams was also ranked No. 17 in the Orlando Sentinel's 2011 Central Florida Super60.

How has your summer been going?

My summer has been going good; I'm just getting ready to go in. I've been working out and stuff and trying to get a little bigger before I report. Since signing day they [USF coaches] sent me a workout packet so I ‘ve just been trying to do the workouts and eat. During the year, I used to eat two meals a day, now I eat three healthy meals a day and workout.

Have you been using the USF workout plan?

After Signing Day, I stayed after school for an extra two hours and lifted weights but since the summer time I haven't got access to the same weight room. I've been doing push-ups and stuff at home but when summer school starts I'm going to start working out again.

What is your current height and weight?

I'm about 6'6" 260 lbs. This past year I played at around 245 lbs.

What were some of the reasons you chose USF?

It was a close to home and I really enjoyed my visit when I went down there. The coaching staff knows how to treat the recruits and the players were really close together when I went down there. That really attracted me to USF.

How does it feel to finally be enrolling?

I'm ready to get down there and get away from home a little bit and start my college career.

What are your immediate goals once you get on campus?

My immediate goals are to settle down, get used to the playbook, get used to Tampa. I want to get bigger because I know I'm getting redshirted this year. I want to get through my redshirt year and get everything done. Hopefully, I'll challenge for a starting spot next year.

What position were you recruited for specifically?

They recruited me to play tackle. I've been playing left tackle my entire high school career but I'm not sure which side the coaches are going to put me. I'm more comfortable at left tackle though.

As an offensive player, is there a certain defense you like to see when you get to the line of scrimmage?

I feel comfortable going against the 4-3.

What is your favorite play to run?

My favorite play to run in high school was a base play. I would block whoever is in front of me whether it was the five technique or the four technique.

What are your strengths as a player?

I would say I'm a pretty balanced player but my high school coaches would say that I'm a better pass blocker than run blocker but I like to think that I'm pretty balanced.

What are some things you need to improve on?

I want to improve on finishing my blocks more and delivering more of a ‘blow' when I get to the second level.

Is there a player on the college or pro level that you try to model your game after?

In the pros, I like Jake Long and Joe Thomas.

What does Darrell Williams bring to USF as a football player?

I'm somebody that is going to work hard and is not going to talkback to the coaches. I'm also a strong worker.

What is a message you want to give the fans for this upcoming season?

Well I went to down for spring practice and I was really impressed so just tell the fans to come out and support us this year. They're going to be surprised and we're going to make some people believe in us this year.
