Island Coast QB enjoys watching Bulls go live

Island Coast quarterback Kurt Benkert landed his firs offer from USF and this past weekend the standout QB made another trip to watch the Bulls go live. The 6'3, 204 pound QB talks about the visit, his offers and where the Bulls stand.

Several months ago Island Coast quarterback Kurt Benkert made a trip to Tampa to check out USF junior day and landed his firs offer. This past weekend the standout QB made another trip

"It was a real good visit," said Benkert. "I basically just went up to see them go live and to get my mom on campus so she could see what it's like."

Benkert got to see the campus and the facilities on his previous visit, and liked them, but this was his moms first time getting to meet the coaches and see everything forherself..

"She liked it a lot, but it was her first college visit, so she doesn't have anything to compare it to ye," said Benkert, "But she definitely enjoyed the day for sure."

The main part of the trip was to see the Bulls practice and go live.

"I liked it a lot because of the intensity of the scrimmage," said Benkert. "Also how everyone was pumped up and excited to go."

The 6-foot-3, 204 pound quarterback paid close attention to the USF signal callers who put up a lot of offense.

"I think B.J. did pretty well and Bobby made smart decisions throwing the ball," said Benkert. "The third QB didn't impress me too well."

Benkert said a few other things stood out including the receiver unit and the defense also impressed him."The receivers made a lot of catches and a lot of big plays. They were a lot better than I expected," said Benkert. "The defense played really well and flew to the ball, which was the main thing I liked."

One of the highlights of the trip was getting to spend time with the USF coaching staff.

"I love them, and it's always great to go up there because of them and how welcome and wanted they make me feel," said Benkert "They said they loved how much bigger I've been getting and just told me that they look forward to seeing a few practices this spring.

The Bulls were the first to offer, then came Western Kentucky, but Benkert said he's getting interst with other schools close to offering.

"I have USF and Western Kentucky and Maryland and UCONN told my coach that I have the offer but I haven't talked to them yet, so I can't really count them yet," said Benkert "I think ND I close and also Michigan State sounds promising, and Stanford possibly, and I know Purdue has been talking to my coach."

With the spring evaluation period coming up, Benkert said he has a short list of schools that he's interested in.

"Yeah I do, right now off the top of my mind comes, LSU, Auburn, Michigan State, Iowa, Missouri, USF, FSU, Stanford, Tennessee and Clemson," said Benkert. Hopefully I'll be hearing from them in a few weeks."

"Right I'm really open minded going into it all," said Benkert. "Of course USF is up there too because they are my first offer and it's close to home."

With Benkert being a December graduate, he does have a time frame when he'd like to make decision and kno?

"I'm trying to have it done before the season starts but I don't know if that will happen.idk if that'll happen," said Benkert. "When I know everything that is on the table I'll start narrowing it down, that's why it's hard right now because there is a lot of speculation as to who is really interested and who isn't so after spring ill have a better idea."

The stand out quarterback does know what he's looking for in a program when making his choice.

"I'm looking at the offense, depth chart, style of coaching, location, and productivity," said Benkert.

Benkert went down to Miami for the NFTC and is hitting the road again this coming weekend.

"I'm going to  Atlanta next Friday for the elite 11," said Benkert. "It's going to be a long drive but hopefully worth it."
