Freedom DB Godwin talks about top 3 schools

Freedom defensive back Nate Godwin had a very good spring and was also part of a talented Tampa team that won the IMG Madden 7on7 title, and schools have taken notice. The 5-foot-11, 180 pound prospect now has 14 offers with three schools standing out in USF, West Virginia, and Iowa State. Read on for all the details and see why those three are sticking out to the local stand-out.

Freedom's Nate Godwin is fresh off helping Team Tampa win the coveted IMG Madden National 7on7 championship and with 14 offers in hand, has decided to name his top three schools.

"Yes sir I have West Virginia, USF and Iowa State as my top three," said Godwin. "Those are the top three schools that are recruiting me the hardest, showing me the most interest and are sticking out to me the most."

The 5-foot-11 and 180-pound defensive back, recorded 43 tackles, an interception and five pass breakups as a junior, and is being recruited for both secondary spots.

"I can play either corner or safety," said Godwin. "I have good speed, size, physicality, good change of direction, and schools are recruiting me for both. I feel that I can play in any defensive scheme."

The standout defensive back, talks about each of the three schools that are sticking out to him at this point.

"West Virginia, its good school, with a good football program, and they win games, and I really like their 3-3-5 defensive scheme, and with 5 defensive backs it's easier to get on the field. I also like their head coach, and that he doesn't want to redshirt players and likes to play true freshmen."

"Iowa State was the first school to offer me and show that initial interest, and that's always in the back of your mind," said Godwin. "They're a Big 12 program, I like the coaching staff, and it's a good school overall."

"I've always liked USF, they're the hometown team, and being born and raised in Tampa, I've grown up watching them and know a lot about them," said Godwin. "I've been to their facilities a lot, and like them. After being there so often that really puts them up there, because I've been able to evaluate them more than any other school. I really like the program, they're in the Big East and can play in a BCS Bowl game, and are overall a good team."

Godwin plans on being busy this summer with several more 7on7s and visits.

"I got the BCP 7on7 this weekend, and then the second sling and shoot for USF at the end of the month," said Godwin. "After that I'm going to take an unofficial visit to West Virginia."

With signing day months away, Godwin says he doesn't plan on waiting until the end and has a process for how and when he'll make his choice, and what he's looking for in a program.

"I want to take a few officials once the season begins, and see what the game day atmosphere is like," said Godwin. West Virginia and Iowa State will both get one. USF could get one also, but they're right there, so I know I'll be going to a few games anyways, but I want to be sure to use those visits for schools that are hard for me to get to, but depending on what happens they could get one."

"I'm thinking about making my decision mid season after I take my visits, but nothing is set in stone right now," said Godwin. "I'm looking for a program with a great coaching staff, good fan base, a winning program, and overall environment."
