Not many players have seen their stock rise quicker than Bartow's Chris Perry, a 6-foot-8, 238 pound power forward/center that blew up during the July live period while playing for AAU Each1Teach1.
"I think I did alright. I played good, but not as good as I could have," said Perry. "It was a great experience and I think I improved as a player."
Schools have taken notice as Perry said went from a handful of offers to around 20 offers including ones from Memphis, South Florida, Cincinnati, Boston University, Georgia Southern, Jacksonville University, Savannah State University, Illinois, FIU, Minnesota, Temple, Miami, Butler, Dayton, Tulsa, Old Dominion, Rhode Island, and UAB.
"It's been crazy. I got about ten or more offers the last few weeks," said Perry. "It's awesome and I love all the attention, and it shows I'm doing something right."
The 6-foot-8, 236 pound prospect visited USF back in the beginning of July and also participated in the Bulls elite camp this weekend.
"It was a real good camp. We worked on a lot of fundamentals, agility stuff, and some five on fives," said Perry. "I really had a wonderful time."
"I got to talk with a bunch of the coaches, Coach Heath, Coach Hip, and all of the assistants," said Perry. "Coach Heath was just reiterating how much he likes me, how I'd be a great fit with the team, and wants me to just keep them in my mind."
With an impressive list of offers, Perry said he has trimmed his list to a top six schools that are sticking out and who he'll focus on heading into the season.
"Murray State, Cincinnati, USF, Butler, Miami and Tulsa," said Perry. "Those are the schools recruiting me the hardest, showing they care, want me, and need me."
Of his six schools, Perry said that two are above the others.
"I'd say Cincinnati and USF," said Perry. "They're both about equal right now."
The coveted big man talked about what keeps the Bulls among his leaders.
"I like USF as a program, they're in the Big East, and I have a real good relationship with Coach Hip (USF Assistant Coach Andy Hipsher.) He's just a cool coach and we're real close," said Perry. "I really liked their new facilities, they're awesome, and Coach Heath is cool too. Not to mention they're only like 35 minutes away."
"I feel real comfortable around the staff there," said Perry. "They also make me feel like I'm a big priority for them.
Previously Perry said he wanted to make a decision in late August, but that may be pushed back just a bit.
"I want to make it early," said Perry, "But I want to take all my official visits first and then make my choice. I want to see all the schools on my list, and I may just take another unofficial to USF, I'm not 100 percent sure just yet."
The 6-foot-8 big man averaged 14 points and 10 rebounds as a junior and also plays with the AAU Nike Elite Each 1 Teach 1.
