The USF staff has had success recruiting in the Peach state over the years, landing several top prospects in recent years. The next one could be Buford's jumbo athlete Mikey Bart, a 6-foot-3, 245 pound tight end/defensive end from Buford,GA..
The Georgia standout plays both tight end and defensive end for Buford, and is being recruited to play both.
"I guess I like defense a little bit better, but I'll like both and will play on either side of the ball or wherever I'm needed the most," said Bart. "I'm very physical, and I'm pretty fast getting to the ball for how big I am. I'm also a very smart player and do the little things well.
On the recruiting front Colleges have certainly taken notice of Bart, who claims offers from North Carolina, South Florida, Southern Mississippi, Syracuse, Cincinnati, and Georgia State, with others showing interest.
"I haven't received any new offers lately, but I have a few showing a lot of interest," said Bart. "Georgia Tech is recruiting me very hard right now, and also Duke has been stepping it up. I've also got interest from schools like Mississippi State, FSU and several others. Of the schools that have offered, South Florida is recruiting very hard."
With a solid group to choose from, the Georgia prospect does have one school sticking out.
"Out of the schools that have offered me, I like South Florida the best," said Bart. "They're my favorite right now."
A few schools are recruiting him at d-end, but the 6-foot-3, 245 pound 3-star prospect is ranked the 33rd best tight end in the country and that is what the Bulls are recruiting him for, and that one of the reasons the Bulls are on top.
"I know they're graduating three tight ends this year, so I feel if go there I have a good chance of playing early," said Bart. "They have a good football program, they're kind of local being in the southeast, and I like the staff."
"I talk with both Tight End Coach Vass and Coach Scott, my recruiting coordinator," said Bart. "They both seem like really good guys. I like coach Vaas a lot, he's pretty funny, a real nice guy and there's nothing not to like about him."
The physical tight end says that the Bulls are making him a priority for this class.
"Coach Vaas said he really wants me down there, that I'm number one on their board," said Bart. "He said he likes what I bring and that they really need a player like me, a guy that's physical and has good hands at their school."
"I know they're an up and coming football team and that they going to compete for the Big East title," said Bart. "They also have one of former players in Demetris Murray. I don't really know him, but know of him."
Bart has taking several visits this summer, but hasn't seen USF yet, however plans to soon.
"I haven't got a chance to go there this summer because we've been so busy, but I'll probably go down sometime this fall," said Bart. "I definitely want to go down there check them out and see one of their games. I'm looking forward to it and want to check out the campus, facilities, check out their academics.'
As to when he'll decide, Bart has no timetable right now for making a decision
"I'm just waiting to see what offers I actually have first," said Bart."But I could make my choice pretty soon."
The Buford standout does know what factors are most important in picking a school.
"I want to go to a good academic college, and a team that has a chance to compete, those are the two big factors," said Bart. "I also want to be somewhat local and stay in the southeast. Playing time is important and I want to go to a school that really wants me."
