Nate Willis, a 3-star JUCO defensive back from Western Arizona committed to USF this summer, but has recently de-committed and opened back up his recruitment. Read on for all the detail on why the 6'1, 180 pound corner back had the change of heart and where the Bulls stand now.
One of the top JUCO defensive backs, Nate Willis out of Arizona Western committed to USF following a second campus visit this summer, but this week the 6-foot-1, 180 pound defensive back had a change of heart and reopened up his recruitment.
I de-committed from USF," said Willis. "After talking it over with my family, they thought that being close to home could be a distraction, but that may be that much of one for me. We also were looking over some games and it triggered that feel like I want to make sure I'm put in the best situation for me. Where I could do the most at my position, like blitzing and used in different ways."
"It's still a good school and I just want to open up recruitment and make sure I'm in the situation where I can make big plays and get to the next level," said Willis. "That's basically what this is about. I want to make sure I'm doing what's best for me."
The Bulls defense has had it's issues this season and that had an effect, but not the main reason.
"The way the defense has been playing does play a part, but that's not really why I opened things back up," said Willis. "It's more about seeing what team would fit me the best and help me get to the next level."
Now that Willis has opening things back up, he says the Bulls are still in the mix for his services.
"Yes they still in the mix, I'm not putting them out," said Willis. "I want to open it up and see what else is there to make sure I do what's best for me."
"I have a couple of schools that have been talking to me regularly and telling me things that I'm feeling. Like where I'll be playing and how I'll be used, coming off the edge and giving me different looks," said Willis. "I like to line up at different spots and used like a hybrid."
The JUCO stand out had a good offer list before committing and has a few school that are on his list of programs he's considering.
"Mississippi State, Kansas State, Arizona State, I just got a recent offer from UCLA and Utah, Kansas is a good school and Iowa State is there too," said Willis. "I'm just waiting on some more schools to see what opportunities I have to choose from."
For now Willis is concentrated on the season, but is in the process of setting up a few officials, and one could be to Tampa.
"I'm trying to set one up with Mississippi State on Oct 13th, but nothing is confirmed yet. If not I may go see either Kansas State, Kansas, or UCLA," said Willis. "I haven't taken an official visit to USF, and think I will to compare how it is to the other schools, and see how they are in live action."
What happens over the next two months with his visits will have an impact on where Wiullis ends up, but he's ruling the Bulls out just yet.
"There's a chance that I could end up back at USF," said Willis. "I want to see how they compare to some other schools and see what's best."Click here for more info or to share your thoughts with other USF insiders -- get the inside scoop!
