A day after receiving a big offer from the hometown Bulls, Tampa Catholic wide receiver Zach Benjamin pulled the trigger and committed to USF.
"Yes sir I committed to USF," said Benjamin. "I feel really good about it, excited and relieved at the same time."
Benjamin only needed a day to think about it before calling the staff with his decision.
"I called the coaches and told them I was ready, and then talked with Coach Holtz about it," said Benjamin."They were really excited and welcomed me to the family."
The 6-foot-5, 194 pound senior receiver had double digit offers including ones from Air Force, Western Kentucky, Arkansas State, Bowling Green, Colgate, Massachusetts, Ohio, and. But his latest offer carried a lot of weight to the local product who chose the home town team for several reasons.
"I've been a big fan of the program for some time, and love the fact that they're local," said Benjamin. "I love the coaching staff and felt very comfortable there."
The big bodied target nicknamed ‘Big Bird' is a large target that caught 13 passes for 280 yards and scored five touchdowns as a junior. So far this season Benjamin has 15 catches for 251 yards and 5 TDS, with 16.73 yards per catch average. In last Friday's win over Northeast, Benjamin reeled in a pass and showed his speed as he took it 63-yards for a game changing score.
Now that he's made a decision, Benjamin said he's feels very good about his choice.
"I feel very good about my decision," said Benjamin."I'm solid to USF."
