LB Kelsey hearing good things about Coach T.

Gainesville standout linebacker Keith Kelsey just finished leading his team to a 14-0 record where they lost in the State Championship game. Now the 3-star linebacker can focus on recruiting, and start setting up his visits. One coach he's looking forward to meeting is Bulls new Head Coach Willie Taggart.

3-star linebacker Keith Kelsey led his Gainesville team to a 14-0 record and it's first berth in the State Championship game in 32 years, but even with a monster performance by Kelsey Jr, who had 14 tackles, including 2.5 TFLs, the Hurricanes lost 37-1`4 to Miami Central.

"It was a real tough loss, and we left it all on the field," said Kelsey. "I felt I played good, but we didn't get the win so that's all that really matters.

The 6-foot-2, 215 pound linebacker finished the year with 191 tackles, 7 sacks, 6 forced fumbles and three fumbles recovered. He also had one punt block, but still fell just shy of his goals.

"For the season I did well and accomplished a lot of things on the field. I had 191 tackles, but my goal was 200. We blew a lot of people out, so I couldn't reach my goal, but overall I did pretty well."

On the recruiting front Kelsey has double digit offers including ones from USF, Louisville, Iowa State, Syracuse, Maryland, Purdue, Temple, Utah, Duke and UCF with a few others pushing harder for his services.

"It's been pretty much the same schools talking to me," said Kelsey "It's Louisville, South Carolina, Florida, South Florida, ISU, and Ole Miss. All have offered except for UF, S. Carolina, and Ole Miss ."

Now that the season is over Kelsey can turn his focus to recruiting and start setting up his visits.

"The only one I know for sure is Louisville," said Kelsey. "I'm not sure about the others, but I'll start setting them up this week.

The Gainesville standout had USF as a high interest with the old staff, but hasn't had direct contact with the new head Coach Willie Taggart yet.

"No I haven't talked to anybody there since the hire," said Kelsey. "He's supposedly a great guy and a better coach."

Kelsey was teammates with two current Bulls in corner Chris Bivins and linebacker Tashon Whitehurst, who tell him very good things about Coach T.

"I hear a lot of good things and the players there really like him," said Kelsey.  "I talked to Tashon and he said Coach Taggart is a really cool coach and a player's coach and that he likes him a lot."

"USF is still in my mix of top schools," said Kelsey. "I'm really looking forward to meeting Coach Taggart and the new staff as soon as the break is over."
