Local 3-star DB Nate Godwin flips to USF

Freedom's standout defensive back Nate Godwin gave Bulls coach Willie Taggart an early Christmas gift when he flipped his commitment from Minnesota to USF today.

Nate Godwin, Freedom's 3-star defensive back prospect switched his commitment to USF today. The standout local prospect made the announcement via Twitter.

"@Nate_Godwin2: With some hard thought I have de-committed from Minnesota . And committed to the university of South Florida !!!! #GoBULLS"

Freedom defensive back Nate Godwin was committed to Minnesota, but several schools were making a strong push, including South Florida who just offered the local prospect last week.

"I called Coach Taggart and he told me he wanted to offer me and he wants me to stay home and be a Bull!" Godwin said after the offer. "That made me feel good to know that my hometown team wanted me and that a new coach wanted me."

The 3-star prospect met with Coach Taggart and Woodie the previous week saying. "He's a good guy and has a really good plan for USF. He's a great recruiter, knows what it takes to win and be successful. Coach Woodie and Taggart are different type of guys. They are guys that have a lot of fire and them."

The 6-foot, 190 pound DB had 47 tackles, two interceptions and five passes defended, while scoring three touchdowns for the (3-7) Patriots and previously said what he likes about USF.

"The big things are that they're very close to home and I'm very familiar with them," said Godwin. "That and there's an opportunity for early playing time there".
