Ron Cooper Leaves His Mark On Sophomore DB

2016 Fort Walton Beach (Fla.) standout, Romeo Finley, is a rising sophomore who received his first offer this past summer from South Florida. After a spectacular freshman campaign, Finley has hit the ground running in his second year of high school football and USFNation.com spoke with stud athlete on the latest with his recruitment.

In today's world, it seems like it's never too early for kids around the nation to start collecting verbal scholarship offers. After a stellar freshman campaign at Fort Walton Beach (Fla.) High school, which he racked up seven interceptions from his safety spot, Romeo Finley earned his first offer from South Florida early this summer at the Bulls satellite camp in Pensacola.

With only a handful of offers sent out to sophomores by the Bulls, coach Willie Taggart and his staff were impressed by the young defensive back and USFNation.com caught up with Finley for the latest.

"Our season has been going pretty good," Finley said. "We're 2-2 right now and I just got my first interception of the season on Friday against Tallahassee (Fla.) Rickards High."

As for the Bulls offer, it was a great feeling for the youngster to pick up his first of many to come.

"Oh yeah, that was awesome," Finley said. "They brought a satellite camp to my area. One of the coaches already knew who I was and I shut down this good receiver. One of their defensive coaches, I think his name was Ron Cooper (defensive backs), offered me right there. Coach Cooper was telling me he could do a lot of great things with me while I was there. When he initially offered me, he said they want me now. It was pretty cool."

Aside from the Bulls offer, Finley has soaring interest from Florida State, Miami (FL), Georgia and Cincinnati.

When the 6-foot-1, 195-pound Finley sits down and makes his decision, education will be a priority Romeo and his family.

"Education first and then the coaches," Finley said. "Hopefully I could play early as well."

Finley hopes to make his decision before his senior year.
