NJ Point Guard Receives USF Offer

Roseville (NJ) Catholic High point guard Asante Gist recently earned an offer from an AAC school this past week. USFNation.com caught with Asante and his father on their upcoming visits plans and Asante's thoughts on his recent offer.

Roseville (NJ) Catholic point guard, Asante Gist, was going through his normal routine as always. Just working on his overall game and trying to get better, while having occasional collegiate coaches come through Roseville Catholic to get a sneak-peek at the quick-n-elusive point guard.

One of the schools that made the long-lasting trip this past week was the South Florida Bulls.

"Actually what happened was, they (USF) came up to the gym and they were in our open gym not too long ago," Gist said. "I think it was maybe a week ago. They told me to play and they came up to my coach after and told him they loved me. I think the next day they offered me."

As of right now, Gist isn't too familiar with the Bulls, but expects to learn more about Stan Heath's program in the near future.

"I haven't really looked up too much on South Florida," Gist said. "I really like the location being down in Florida. I knew they had a guard that was good not too long ago, I forgot his name."

Asides from the Bulls offer, Gist has offers from Seton Hall, Rutgers, Pennsylvania, Fordham and ascending interest from Syracuse, Notre Dame, Villanova, Pittsburgh, North Carolina State and more.

A handful of those schools will receive a visit from Asante and his father, James Gist.

"We're taking an unofficial visit to N.C State on Nov. 1 and we're probably going to take an unofficial to Pittsburgh and South Florida as well," James Gist said.

As for leaders, everyone school is neck-and-neck for the rising sophomore.

"There's no clear-cut favorite," James Gist said. "He likes all the schools right now. We're looking to make our decision later on into the end of the summer before his senior year."
