Louisville Pledge Set to Visit South Florida

When former Louisville coach Charlie Strong agreed to become the next coach at Texas, several Cardinal commits were shocked and will began to eye other schools. One of those commits is Lakeland (Fla.) Victory Christian Academy defensive lineman, Chris Nelson.

Blindsiding many, but Charlie Strong, the former Louisville Cardinals Head Football Coach, decided to move on from the Cardinals over the weekend to become the head coach of the Texas Longhorns. While Louisville is currently searching for Strong's replacement, some of the Cardinals' commits will began to look around at other institutions to solidify their college decisions.

One of those commits that's peeking around is Chris Nelson, a 3-star defensive tackle from Lakeland (Fla.) Victory Christian Academy.

"As of right now, I'm just a soft commit," Nelson said. "South Florida, Central Florida and Iowa State have all made contact since it went down."

As of right now, the No. 42 defensive tackle in the 2014 class has only visit set up for South Florida, who has special plans for the nearby Lakeland native if he decides to play his college football near home in the Sunshine State.

Coach (Ron) Cooper (defensive backs) is recruiting me hard," Nelson said. "I have an official visit to USF on the 24th as well. They have plans for me to be a big role in their program if I come. The thing I like about them (USF) is that it's close to home."

The 6-foot-3, 280-pound defensive lineman was scheduled to make it up to Louisville in a few weeks, but as of right now, South Florida is the only visit on Nelson's itinerary.

"I had a visit with Louisville coming up, but I think its canceled right now," Nelson said. "I'm just waiting to see what Louisville is going to do. I should know by the end of the week if I'm staying or leaving."

If the athletic run stuffer decides to open up his recruitment, will there be a frontrunner moving forward?

"Just know it will be close to home."
