Two Offers And Counting For Laurent

Even though he has yet to play a down of football at the junior college level, New Mexico Military DT Julien Laurent (6-4, 330) has drawn quite a bit of early attention and he's even hauled in two early offers so far this offseason...

"I have offers right now from South Florida and New Mexico," Laurent told "I got both of those about a week and a half ago and it felt good to get them.

"Besides those two schools, I have been talking to Arizona, Illinois and South Alabama."

Laurent's size, surprising quickness and impressive strength are what has impressed the most and he said that helps him man either spot inside along the defensive line.

"I can play either nose (tackle) or the three (technique, pass rushing defensive tackle)," Laurent noted. "This summer I've been working a lot on my 'get off' and coming off the ball quicker and also my pad level."

It's been a bit of a journey for Laurent to get to this point.

He played club football for a team up in Ontario, Canada as a prep and then signed with Wagner College out in New York but had to leave after his first year there.

"I had some personal stuff to take care of and so I dropped out and took care of that," Laurent said. "I ended up sitting out last year, but then I wanted to start playing again and get back into it, so that's sorta how I ended up here at New Mexico Military.

"I liked the coaches and the program and the discipline that you have to have to be here."

Laurent is a very good student, sporting a 3.43 GPA, and he is on pace to graduate in December and he will have two years to play two following the 2014 football season.
