For Largo (Fla.) Indian Rocks Christian School, one of the main ingredients in their success over the past couple of seasons has been highlighted by Damian King, a human highlight reel who accounted for 2,128 all-purpose yards and 24 touchdowns while seeing time at quarterback, wide receiver, running back, defensive back and as a kick-returner in 2013.
King, who opens up his final prep season less than two weeks from now as the No. 81 wide receiver and a three-star prospect on Scout.com, is focused on the task at hand and hopes to leave a lasting impression on the hundreds in attendance.
"My mindset is to stay focused, stick with the game plan, and my goal is to get 100 yards (receiving)," King said. "I catch the ball from the Jugs Machine before and after practice every day. I'm also working on my routes and getting in and out of my cuts."
But with 2014 season approaching and college football kicking into gear just over a week from now, King is poised to haul in dozens of game invites and recruiting pitches over the next few months.
"I'm (officially) visiting Missouri week nine during my bye week, but I don't know about the other schools yet," King said. "Pittsburgh, West Virginia, Missouri, FIU and USF are the top schools showing interest right now."
Due to the proximity of their campus, there's a good chance that King won't be using up one of his five official visits on the South Florida Bulls.
But with a camp appearance and nearly five unofficial visits to the school residing in nearby Tampa Bay over the past couple of months, Willie Taggart's newly installed vision is something that clouds up King's mind from time to time, making them a realistic option.
"I like the coaches mostly," King said. "I like (wide receivers) coach (Ron) Dugans a lot because he helped me a lot at wide receiver. I also like the campus and school."
Early on, five schools have slipped out from the rest of the pack and have the slight edge in King's recruitment.
