Bulls Begin Road Stretch at Temple

USF Basketball is entering a a period where five of their next seven games will be away from the Sun Dome. Their first stop is in Philadelphia against Temple.

Struggling South Florida (7-11, 1-4) is embarking on possibly the most challenging stretch of their 2014-15 season where the next five of seven games will be on the road which includes a visit to Storrs for a rematch with Uconn. Entering Thursday’s matchup at Temple (12-7, 3-3), the Bulls are looking for an opportunity to break out of their month-long slump where they’ve lost ten of twelve contests and generate momentum heading into the middle stretch of the season.

A key to continued success will be major contributions from USF’s big men. Ruben Guerrero’s progression within the starting lineup has been documented, but it’s the increasing effort from Jaleel Cousins that Orlando Antigua emphasized after the loss against Tulsa. “We need big minutes from him. We need big minutes from all of our bigs and I thought Jaleel put an imprint on the game when he was just being physical. He was being alert, he was being active and he got to the free throw line and he made them.” The bigs will indeed have their hands full battling conference rebound leader Jaylen Bond and the rest of the Owls.

Like USF, Temple is a team going through a bit of a slump at the moment as well. The Owls have dropped their past three contests including a 29 point beat down by Cincinnati this past Saturday. Despite recent struggles, Temple is still a tournament hopeful, owning victories over Kansas and Uconn this season. The Owls are a team that doesn’t make many mistakes, ranking 20th in the nation in fewest turnovers per game (10.7). Senior guard and Jacksonville native Will Cummings ranks third in the conference in assist/turnover ratio at 1.9.

The game will begin at 6:30 ET on ESPNews.
