USF Making a Run at Jacksonville Linebacker

Recruiting usually picks up during the bye week. One of the players that has been getting attention from the Bulls talked with USFnation about his offer, when he will decide and what visits he will make.

The Bulls are after another player that is flying under the radar of the Big 3. This time it is on the defensive side of the ball. USF has offered Alonzo McQueen, who plays for Robert E. Lee in Jacksonville, Florida. McQueen has good size at 6-foot-1 210 pounds, he also runs a 4.6 40.

Through 4 games this year he has 38 tackles but he says there is plenty of room for improvement.

"I have been playing pretty solid" says McQueen, "but I dropped a couple easy interceptions that I usually would catch."

Even with a couple dropped passes McQueen is still getting recognition from outside the state.

"I have17 offers" adding, "besides USF, I've been offered by South Carolina, Clemson, Iowa, NC State, and Indiana."

Alonzo was close to making an unofficial visit before the season started but he got sick and had to cancel the trip.

"As of now I don't have any official visits planned but I might go to a Clemson game and I'm probably going to make it down for the West Virginia game in Tampa."

McQueen doesn't plan to make a decision until a week or two before signing day.

"I'm definitely going to wait till the season is over." McQueen said that when he does make a decision it will be based on four things. "the most important factor for me is academics because I'm going to college to get a degree. After that I want a good atmosphere and a school that will have a winning tradition."

As for USF Alonzo said, "They are pretty high on my list right now. They have some good linebackers and I like their system."

Another positive for USF is that McQueen is from Stephen Nicholas' alma mater in Jacksonville. I'm sure later in the recruiting season Nicholas will have a talk with McQueen and give him the inside scoop on South Florida.
