Local RB Commits to USF

The South Florida Bulls got a commitment from a Bay Area running back. Only USFnation.com has the full interview, including the details on how the decision was made and why he wants to be a Bull.

Although it is still relatively early in the recruiting season USF has already begun the festivities, landing RB Dexter McCluster, Largo (Fla.). McCluster is a speed back at 5-foot-8 160 pounds. As a Junior he ran for 1,200 yards and also had 300 yards receiving. In only 6 games this season, McCluster has 1,100 yards and 14 total touchdowns (12 rushing, 1 receiving, 1 punt return).

This would technically be the second commitment for the Bulls. The first one was Justin Jenkins of Edgewater, who quickly decommitted two weeks later.

When talking to Dexter, he sounds pretty confident in his decision.

"I talked it over with my Dad." Adding, "I told him how I was feeling and he told me to do what I thought was right and he would support my decision."

Why did you choose USF?

"I feel really comfortable there, I went to the camp over the summer and I've been to all three home games. I also talk with the coaches, I know it's a place I will be happy and a place I will make an impact at."

When you made the decision how did it go down?

"Well, my dad and I had already talked about it when Coach Frey called." McCluster said, "I told him what I was thinking then I talked with Coach Franks and told him I wanted to commit and after that I got a chance to talk with Coach Leavitt."

As of now McCluster said he has 5 offers: Rutgers, Ole Miss, Akron, USF and Western Kentucky. He hasn't made any official visit yet, but he does hope to schedule at least one and that would be to Ole Miss.

"I just want to check it out. I have not really been to any other schools and I just want to see the campus."

This is a good start for USF, it isn't a huge need right now but it is always good when you can add a speed guy like Dexter McCluster.
