Bulls Close to Offering Local DE

Lately there has been a lot of talk about who the Bulls are interested on the defensive line. Well, USFnation.com is bringing you a story on a local DE who's stock is rapidly rising. Nick Plasencia, from Tampa Jesuit is quietly making a name for himself while devouring quarterbacks.

I recently got word that Nick Plasencia was on the USF radar. A week later I went to go watch him play against Sarasota Booker and he did not disappoint. The 6-foot-3 defensive end had two sacks and three tackles in the first six minutes of the game. He didn't stop there either, he finished the game with four sacks and another half dozen tackles.

When I talked to Nick he said he has about 10 or 11 total sacks on the season, but he's really working on stopping the run. He also mentioned that he plays tight end as well and recently caught his first TD. However, he prefers defensive end and will be recruited as that for college.

Run stopping has been Plasencia's main objective this year and who better to help him with it than former Tampa Bay Buccaneer Marcus Jones. Jones is an assistant with Jesuit and has been helping him develop speed and tackling skills.

"He helps me with being physical and going after the QB." Plasencia added, "One thing he tells me every single day is ‘Trample the run on the way to the QB', that's kind of like our motto."

As far as interest from colleges go, Plasencia said most has come from military schools and Ivy League. However, they are only able to offer partial scholarships to those schools.

When asked about USF this is what he had to say:

"I've been watching them and they are doing pretty well." Adding, "I would like to stay home and have a chance to play in front of my family and friends."

He said he hasn't made it out to a game this year, but he did attend the Scout.com camp at USF and got a chance to tour the facilities.

Plasencia's main factors in choosing a school will be academics, ability to make an impact, and competitiveness of the program.

"I am definitely interested in South Florida and would love an offer from them."

USFnation.com will keep you updated on what happens and let you know if and when the offer comes.
