USF Closing in on East Coast OL does a follow up on a recruit we told you about a month ago. Mark Jones from Port Orange, Florida talks about USF and today's visit from Bulls coach Lawrence Dawsey.

Last time talked with Mark Jones he was getting ready to play his final high school game of his career. However in his final game, the guard from Port Orange, Florida was injured on a simple run play.

"I kicked out on a toss play and the defensive tackle came across to make the tackle and rolled up on me."

Jones said the injury has healed completely.

"It was a vertical tear of my MCL." Adding, "If it was a normal horizontal tear I would be out much longer, I guess I was lucky."

The injury has caused one major team to back-off.

"I think FSU is no longer interested after the injury. Everything else is still the same though."

Jones said that the injury has had no effect on how he is being recruited by USF.

"Coach Dawsey actually came to my school today." Jones said, "we just talked about everything a little football, some basketball and even golf."

There was no commitment but Jones says he is pretty close to choosing USF.

"My Dad really like USF and my parents are involved a lot in the process. I have a visit scheduled for January so I probably wont decide till the. I want to make sure I think everything out."

If you were surprised that you didn't hear he was at the final USF home game, it's because his high school's football banquet was on the same night. Jones told me he was pretty disappointed he couldn't make it. I get the feeling that if he was there it would have been hard for him not to commit with all the excitement.
