Bulls Out of Running For LB McCarthy

USF has been in the hunt for CCC linebacker Colin McCarthy since early in the summer, they even made his top 5, but now McCarthy tells USFnation that its down to a two school race, leaving USF on the outside looking in. Read on to find out what he thinks of USF and why they did not make his top two.

Colin McCarthy USF was first introduced to the 6-foot-3 215 pound linebacker over the summer when he attended one of the Scout.com combines held on the Bulls practice fields. A virtual unknown at the time, McCarthy didn't have a single offer. Fast-forward 6 months, he has offers from Miami, Nebraska, South Florida, Penn State, Ohio State and Georgia Tech to name a few. This kind of recognition doesn't come by accident, McCarthy proved on the field he is the top linebacker in the Tampa Bay area and one of the top 3 in the state.

However, it does not appear Colin will be attending his hometown school.

"I like coach Leavitt and I think coach Burnham does a great job with the linebackers he has coached, but I just feel USF is not the right fit for me right now."

McCarthy told USFnation it's basically a two-team race between Miami and Ohio State. He also said Georgia Tech is close, but feels it will come down to those two in the end. Last weekend McCarthy made a visit to Miami and told Mike Bakas of Canestime.com his thoughts.

"It went really well," McCarthy said. "Just as far as football goes at Miami, it doesn't get much better. They win and play for national championships. Everyone has a football mentality. They put a lot of guys into the pros and every kid who comes there wants to win and play at the next level. Its really encouraging being around that type of atmosphere."

McCarthy talked about the comparisons between his favorites. "I really liked it at Ohio State but Georgia Tech and Miami were great too," he said. "The coaching situations at Ohio State and Miami are a lot alike. They're both big time football programs. They all have their positives about them. It's just a matter of me figuring out where I feel the most comfortable."

The main reason McCarthy cited for losing interested in USF was that he wanted a chance to leave home for his college experience. He also said he wishes he would have planned his official visits better.

"If I could do it again I would not have gone to Indiana. I would have scheduled USF instead. I didn't know Georgia Tech and Nebraska were interested at the time so I just wanted to use an official visit."

McCarthy did say he's still interested in USF and may attend a bowl game practice. He also said he might go to the school and talk with an academic advisor.

"I'm not as serious about USF as the other schools, but I am still interested. I want to learn a little more about them since I'm not taking an official visit."
