Darin Baldwin of South Dade High School is a 6-foot, 170-pound corner who earned second team all-Dade honors as a junior and first team honors as a senior. This season Baldwin said teams did not throw to his side as much causing his stats to drop a bit.
"Quarterbacks, didn't go at my side much." Says Baldwin, "I only had 4 picks, 2 sacks and 30 to 40 tackles."
He describes himself as a physical corner and prefers to play in man coverage. He also runs well, over the summer he recorded a 4.44 40 time.
"I like cover-one or man-to-man. I like to make the receiver work for everything. I don't like when I have to sit in a zone coverage and the receiver gets an easy 5 or 6 yard catch.
Not bad stats considering the limited amount of opportunities. Baldwin says he is considering 4 schools as signing day nears. They are (in no order) UCF, USF, NC State, and Florida.
"I've followed all four schools pretty closely this year." Adding, "I watch for things like, who's playing freshman and which schools run a lot of nickel packages with 5 DB's on the field."
Baldwin described what he likes about each school.
USF-"They are a program on the rise, I like that they are growing. I figure by the time I get there they will be a big time program."
UCF-"They play a lot of younger guys especially freshman. I like that they give everyone a fair chance to play. I know that if I'm good enough as a freshman I'll get on the field."
UF-"I lived in that area for a while and attended some camps, so I'm familiar with the city. I know if I go there I will have to work for it, nothing will be handed to me."
North Carolina State-"I took an official visit there a couple weeks ago. I really liked the campus and all the players were cool with me."
Baldwin says that he has family in the Tampa area but he also has family in Gainesville and around Orlando. Meaning that location won't be an issue because if he goes anywhere in Florida there will be family close to him.
