Local QB Makes Impression at Jax Combine

Robert Marve QB of Plant High School in Tampa, made an early splash last weekend in Jacksonville. He was one of the top two quarterbacks at Scout.com's combine, yet only has offers from 2 schools. After his workout he talked with USFNation about his strengths, offers, what he's working on and what the biggest factor will be when it comes to making a decision. He also talks about his experience at USF's Junior Day. BONUS: Comine video of Marve's workout!

Last year Robert Marve led his Plant High team to the playoffs for the first time since 1981. They made it to the second round where they lost to two time defending state champs, Armwood. Marve himself threw for over 1,800 yards last season, but is still not known as one of the top QB's in the area.....until now.

Last weekend Marve illustrated why he deserves to be included with the likes of John Brantley, Alton Voss and Stephen Garcia in the debate for top QB in the state. He displayed excellent footwork, arm strength and accuracy. However, there is one thing that he was unable to show-off at a camp like this, and that's the ability to also make plays with his legs. Seeing Marve play last season against Middleton, I can say that Marve's running ability is just as dangerous as his passing.

As of now the 6-foot-2 quarterback is only holding two offers, but he says he is expecting an offer from South Florida very soon.

"Right now I have offers from Kansas and Mississippi State." Adding, "I'm also receiving interest from Florida and Pittsburgh." Marve also said that if he could get one offer right now, from any school in the nation, it would be "The Ohio State University."

About three weeks ago USF held it's annual junior day, where they invite juniors from all over the area for a visit to campus. This year they brought all the recruits to the Bulls men's basketball game versus Georgetown.

"I enjoyed it, it was fun. I liked talking with the coaches and visiting the school." Marve said that he talks with Coach Carl Franks the most, but also keeps in touch with some of the coaches through text messaging.

There is still plenty of time to pick a school, but he says that regardless of where he ends up, his Mom will play a big part in the decision making process. "I'll talk to my Mom, she'll play a very important part. She's number one."

In the meantime there is still much work to be done and Marve says he will be looking to improve his strength and speed this summer. Check back with USFNation as we will be sure to follow Marve up through signing day.
