Once again Carlton Hill missed practice and word is he will not return until Saturday's spring game. Sure that's only one more practice, but he has already missed more than half of this spring's practices. What began as a three-man QB battle has basically turned into a two man rotation, with Matt taking the first team snaps and PJ backing up.
Here are the rest of the notes from today's workout:
Ricky Ponton did not practice due to a tailbone injury he received in Saturday's scrimmage.
Former defensive line coach Earl Lane was at today's practice as a spectator.
Stephen Nicholas was not in pads today after what seemed to be a knee injury that occurred on Saturday.
Moise Plancher was going through light drills today, but will still sit out the spring game.
Taurus Johnson injured his left shoulder during board drills. It didn't look serious and he finished practice.
First team offense was Danny Tolley, Matt Huners, Nick Capogna, Walter Walker, Marc Dile.
Second team offense was Jerome Springfield, Larry Lindsey, Jason Fox, Alex Stein, Matt Huners.
First team defense was George Selvie, Woody George, Richard Clebert, Josh Julmiste.
Second team defense was Jarriett Buie, Allen Cray, Tavarious Robinson, Treco Bellamy.
Matt Grothe- 6 for 13, INT. Grothe looked sharp today, however threw a pick in the endzone during a redzone drill.
Pat Julmiste- 6 for 8. PJ improved on his consistency today, he had a tight spiral and good arm strength.
Courtney Denson had a good day, breaking up several passes and picking off a pass intended for Amp Hill.
Jerome Murphy picked of a pass, making it his fourth in four practices.
Marcus Edwards and Amp Hill each caught several passes from each QB.
Today's scrimmage started off with two consecutive runs by Matt Grothe, the second of which resulted in a fumble and recovery for the defense. Neither QB made many plays through the air, but the running game looked improved.
Mid-way through the scrimmage Cedric Hill dropped a pass while being wide-open in the center of the field. On the very next play he redeemed himself by bailing PJ out on a wild scramble play that resulted in a first down.
Grothe did throw a TD to S.J. Green on a 19 yard play that looked like it was drawn up in the sand rather than the offices of USF. Grothe ran around in the backfield, briefly turning his back to the play, then tossed a duck to the center of the field where it was snatched up by Green before the defense could close in.
Tavarious Robinson had a HUGE hit on Mike Padilla that left T-Rob a bit shaken up.
