Devin Gordon- 6-3, 235, Senior Tight End

As soon as Devin Gordon walked on the USF practice field this past spring, he began to impress the coaches and the staff from USFnation as well.  He had such a good spring that he earned a roster spot with the Bulls.

This summer he continued to work hard, put on about 18 pounds of muscle, and was recently rewarded a scholarship. Gordon transferred from Missouri Valley College where he was the team leader in receiving in 2004 catching 38 passes for 410 yards and three touchdowns. He has great ability, work ethic, and continues to impress teammates and coaches who are more then happy that they gave give him the chance that he deserves.

Is it a big difference from last year to this year?
"Well it's been a lot of work, but its what I wanted and I'm just thankful to Leavitt for giving me an opportunity to work my way on the team, and get chance to prove to everybody that I can hold up my end. "

Did you have any assurance that if you came to USF that you would make the team?
"It's just something I decided was best for me, I didn't talk to any coaches before I transferred; it's just something that I made up my mind that I was going try and to do."

Did you have any prior contact with any coaches?
"Yeah they recruited me quite a bit out of high school, but I was focused on playing basketball mostly."

After playing all spring as a walk-on, are you happy that you were givin a scholarship?
" Yeah, I'm very happy, Coach Leaviit gave me the opportunity earn a scholarship, and I just tried my hardest, and it paid off."

How do you feel about moving up on the depth chart?
"We're strong at the tight end position, of course we got a lot more work to do, but I'm real comfortable because we got some good athletes out there. So we're looking real good. There's more work to do, but we're pretty good for where we are right now. I'm excited."

Does it affect you not knowing who the quarterback will be yet?
"As players not really, because that's not our decision, we got to leave that to the coaches, I just worry about myself."

How did you like your first press conference?
"It was new to me, but I think I handled it all right. I'm doing good."

You seem bigger now , what did you do in the off-season to stay in shape?
" Well in the spring I was down to weighing 216, I weigh 235 right now."  I'll have to give all that credit to our strength and conditioning coach McKeefery. He would stay on us all summer, and make sure we worked hard. It's like I said, you buy into the system and listen to what the coaches are saying, and it pays off."

What are your expectations for the season?
" I think as a team we're very talented and as a team will do real good, for myself I just want to help the team."
