USF vs FIU: Game Break Down

Last Game played USF:
The South Florida Bulls defeated McNeese State 41-10, which ended  a three game losing streak, the second longest in school history, that dated back to last season. Redshirt Freshmen Matt Grothe played in his first college game when he replaced an injured Pat Julmiste in the second quarter. Grothe Scored his first touchdown as a Bull on a QB keeper and finished the game with 171 yards on 9-of-13 passing with two touchdowns. One a 47 yard pass to Marcus Edwards, his first as a Bull, the other to Ean Randolph for his first TD at USF as well. Also Walt Smith replaced an injured Moise Plancher and  finished the game with 7 carries for 70 yards and two touchdowns

USF Firsts last week:

  • Matt Grothe Scored his first TD as a Bull on a 1 yard rush
  • Matt Grothe first TD pass was a 47 yarder to Marcus Edwards
  • Marcus Edwards 47 yard TD catch was his first as a Bull
  • Ean Randolph 12 yard TD catch was his first
  • USF's Keeley Dorsey Scored his first TD as a Bull on a 52 yard scamper on the games final play.
  • Walt Smith scored his first TD as a Bull on a 24 yard rush
  • In all 22 players made their USF debut
  • 9 USF players made their first career starts

Last Game Played FIU:
Florida International Golden Panthers lost 7-6 at Middle Tennessee State.  Florida International scored first off of a 12-yard run by Julian Reams. A missed extra point proved to be the difference for the Golden Panthers since the only other score, a 33 yard run by Middle Tennessee State, included the all important point after. FIU rushed 25 times for 97 yards while throwing for 150 yards. The defense held Middle Tennessee State to only 97 yards off of 35 carries.

Game Notes:

  • FIU is in its fifth year of competition
  • FIU's Josh Patrick was the Sunbelt's top passer in 2005.
  • FIU's Keyonvis Bouie- led the sunbelt conference in tackles in 2005
  • First year USF Defensive line coach, Bernard "Tiger" Clark was defensive coordinator for FIU the last two seasons.
  • A win would give USF a 2-0 record for just the third time in their 10 year history.
