The South Florida coaching staff keeps the recruting momentum going by getting a verbal commitment from Lawrence McCoy of Valdosta High School in Valdosta Georgia. McCoy is an athletic 6-foot 6 265 pound offensive tackle who was recently named First team All-Region.

Many schools around the country have expressed interest in McCoy including FSU, UAB, and FAMU, to name a few. "South Florida has done a really good job of recruiting him, getting on him early, staying on him, and letting him know that he was there guy." Said head coach Rick Tomberlin, He also hit it off real well with coach Frey.

"He's got the body, the speed and the athletic ability to be something special. He looks like a pass rushing defensive end," said Tomberlin He's a little leaner, with long arms. He looks like a really good athlete. On a scale from 1-10, from a character standpoint he's an 11, He's above and beyond what normal kids are, and he's a true team player." He's a tough kid, an athletic kid and an outstanding football player."

"He's got really good grades with a core GPA of 2.95 which is outstanding," said Tomberlin, I don't feel comfortable giving out his test scores, he is going to take it several more times to improve his score, but I don't think he'll have a problem."

McCoy hasn't set his official visit with USF yet, but is in the process of doing so, and does not plan to take any other visits as he is " Very committed" to being a Bull. " He speaks very high on the Bulls and their coaches, said Tomberlin, "they also have a few players from here that are doing well, it's a good location, and this is what Lawrence wants."
