USF MBB Falls 69-63 To TAMU-Corpus Christi

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- The University of South Florida men's basketball team had five players finish with double figures Monday night, but it wasn't enough as a late rally fell short versus TAMU-Corpus Christi.

Josh Washington had 21 points as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi defeated USF 69-63.

Both teams played evenly until midway in the second half, when the Islanders (5-3) ran a 9-2 run and took the lead for good. The Bulls (7-2) pulled to within four in the final minute, but couldn't catch up.

Solomon Bozeman led the Bulls with 15 points, while Melvin Buckley added 14.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi went 6-for-13 from the 3-point line, while USF shot 4-for-17 from beyond the arc. Washington, who had five 3-pointers in nine attempts, left the game with an injury with 2:15 left in the game.

The Islanders Chris Daniels led both teams with 11 rebounds. South Florida's Kentrell Gransberry had 10 boards and 10 points for his second-straight double-double.

It was the second time the two teams met. The Islanders also won the first game in 2005.
