Petrino Gone, Can USF Capitalize?

With Bobby Petrino going to the Atlanta Falcons, many recruits may be reconsidering their options. USFNation has compiled a list of prospects that the Bulls staff may turn their focus on. Read on for the entire list.

Matt Simms QB 6-3/200 (Don Bosco Prep School). Simms, a U.S. Army All-American, is completing over 65% of his pass attempts and has thrown for more than 1,700 yards and 18 touchdowns on the season. Earned Associated Press All-State honors as a junior. Matt is the son of former New York Giant quarterback Phil Simms and brother of Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Chris Simms.  He recently cnfirmed his Committment to Louisville stating his good relationship with Petrino, but that was this weekend before Petrino said he was leaving for the Falcons. He had listed Boston College, Michigan, Mississippi, and Rutgers and was linked to USF earlier in the year.

Chris Summers (Jean Ribault HS, FL)Summers earned All-Conference honors following a senior season that saw him pull in 41 receptions for 663 yards and 8 touchdowns. He is also an All-State performer on the basketball court, and could attempt to play both sports. Summers committed in December, but also considered fellow Big East Conference members South Florida and Cincinnati

Josh Bynes LB 6-2/228/4.70 (Boyd H. Anderson HS, FL) - A 4 star prospects out of the state of Florida, and the No. 16th ranked linebacker in the Nation, He had over 100 tackles this season and was outstanding as a junior recording 147 tackles (127 solo), eight forced fumbles, five fumble recoveries and two sacks. A 3.0 core GPA and a 740 SAT. Bynes claims to have over 30 offers, with his top choices being Auburn, Iowa, Louisville, South Carolina, but with Petrino gone you never know

Aaron Gresham LB 6-1/215/4.60 (Lafayette HS, FL)Gresham, had a solid senior season, and was recently named the Player of the year by the Gainesville Sun, and also voted to the All-Area Team. As a junior Gresham was a First Team All-State after totaling 137 tackles, 26 for a loss, 16 sacks, and 6 forced fumbles. Gresham had an official visit to Louisville on December 8th  and also has Michigan State set for Jan. 13th, and South Florida on January 19th. And sais no decision would be made until all visits were made.

Rudell Crim 5-11/188/4.62 (James Rickards HS FL) Cornerback Rudell Crim of James Rickards HS is one of the top defensive back prospects in North Florida. He made an official visit to West Virginia the weekend of Dec. 9, and has visits set up with Louisville on Jan. 13, and then visits South Florida on Jan. 19th. He also said he may set up a visit with Illinois. "West Virginia, Louisville and South Florida are my top three, and I have offers from them all"

Rene Perry DT 5-10/260/4.90 (Columbia HS – North, FL)He may only be 5-11 and 265 pounds, but the talented defensive tackle is a bit short for today's standards but plays with tremendous strength and leverage. He finished last season with over 80 tackles and seven sacks. USF interest in Perry has waned lately. Perry visited Ball State in early December and has a trip to Louisville scheduled for January 12. "I'm working on a visit with USF. I'll probably go there the week after I visit Louisville."

Because of his elusiveness and speed, Miller is projected as a potential college wide receiver or defensive back. With trips to Bowling Green and Louisville now complete, Miller says that he'll also visit Central Florida, Miami and South Florida before making a decision.

Lathaniel Sowell RB 5-10/190/4.50 (Hamilton County HS, FL)A talented running back prospect, Sowell was a second team All-State pick behind C.J. Spiller as a junior last season.
