The 6'3-215 pound Hampton had offers from Indiana, Maryland, Duke, Purdue, USF and Akron, and had major interest from Auburn as well.
"He loved everything about the visit to USF, and knew that was where he wanted to be," Said head coach Corey Jarvis
Hampton was heavily recruited after finishing his senior season with 79 tackles, 21 of them for a loss, 10 sacks, five forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, one blocked field goal, one blocked punt, and also had 26 QB hurries. He was named Class 5A defensive Player of the Year.
"One thing I can say about Patrick is he as instinct, he has that instinct to make big plays, some things you try and teach kids, you might have too teach kids how to strip the ball, and get into the right place to make plays, but with Patrick it just comes natural."
Hampton can play either defensive end or linebacker for the Bulls and can play both with equal intensity and tenacity, and cause havoc.
"Where ever he lines up, he's always trying to create a turnover, make a big play for the defense, and get the offense the ball back."
