Spotlight '08: QB Kyle Parker

The Bulls signed a great class in '07, but now the focus is on '08. One of the major needs to fill next year is at the QB position. Look for Kyle Parker (Bartram Trail, Jacksonville) to be one of the top prospects on USF's recruiting board. Find out more about Parker, including his playing style, plans for the summer and the latest on his recruitment.

The focus has officially shifted, the class of '07 is in the rear-view and '08 is on the horizon. One of the top prospects in Florida and a name that USF fans need to know is Kyle Parker from Bartram Trail. A week ago the Bulls landed the anchor of his Oline, Thomas Edenfield. Parker, 6-foot-1 180 pounds had a stellar junior year, passing for over 1,000 yards, 15 TD's also running for 700 yards and 12 scores. Although these stats look good, Parker says there is plenty of room for improvement.

"This summer our team will be attending a lot of seven-on-seven camps." Adding, "I'll also go to a couple combines, but mostly we'll go as a team."

Some of the team camps will include Clemson, Vanderbilt, UCF, South Florida and Valdosta State.

"We want to make sure we're ready for the upcoming season. We are working hard. Three days a week we are already working out in the gym and running."

Parker describes himself as a duel-threat type quarterback. He prefers to hang in the pocket but has no problem tucking it away and running for the necessary yards.

"I would say I play a lot like Bret Favre. I don't model my game after him, there are some similarities though."

Less than a week ago Parker committed to Clemson, and says he's content with his decision, however recruiting fans know that commitments this early rarely last. Clemson already has a verbal from one QB Jon Richt, Parker is the second for the '08 class.

"I feel like I'll end up with Clemson unless there is a coaching change or something like that."

Although he says he won't take any visits, Parker will be on several college campuses this summer while traveling with his team and one of those will be South Florida. The Bulls signed Alton Voss, QB from Gulf in '07, but look for them to go after some big names in '08. The quarterback position is a need and Kyle Parker will be at the top of their wish list.
