Tyson Butler Profile Why did you choose USF?
Tyson Butler:  I felt it was a very up and coming program. Also it's close to home, so my family and friends can come watch me play.

USFN: What are some of the things that you like about USF?
Butler:  When I went up on my visit I liked what they had to offer. I loved everything about it, it was nice, and the campus was great. The facilities were really nice, they were the biggest one that I've seen. Everything was cool, and I liked the fact that they play in the Buccaneer's stadium, and I really liked all the coaches, they're real nice people, and I got along with everybody there. Not to mention I know a couple people from my area that already go there.

USFN: Have you been following the Bulls this season?
Butler:  Yeah, I watched a couple of games. I watched the UCF game, the West Virginia game, and i watched the Bowl game.

USFN: How long have the Bulls been recruiting you, and who were involved?
Butler:  They been recruiting me since last spring. Carl Franks, and Coach Rachel were involved the most, i also talked with Coach Leavitt.

USFN: Which coach made the biggest impression on you during your recruitment?
Butler:  Coach Rachel, he's a real cool guy. I really liked him, but I felt good about all the coaches

USFN: Do you know any of the current players on the Bulls?
Butler:  I know Taurus Johnson and Nate Allen. Both of them live by me. I also know Quenton Washington, he's from this area too, and we'll be going in together.

USFN: What position are the Bulls recruiting you for, and do you play any other positions?
Butler:  They're recruiting me for both running back and defensive back, and also special teams, returning kicks. I also play receiver.

USFN: Are you flexible, and willing to play at a position of need and excel at it?
Butler:  Yeah, I'll play any position. I prefer offense, but if I play defense I'm just as good, and don't have a problem playing where they need me.

USFN: While playing on D,  what type of defense do you like to run the most?
Butler:  I like to play man up, right in their face, and guard them head up the whole way. I'm a coverage guy, but it doesn't really matter,

USFN: When your on defense, is there a type of offense you like to see when you get to the line?
Butler: Not really, well I do like to see when there in a passing offense. I really like to face a team that likes to pass the ball a lot.   I like to see tall receivers so I know they are going to pass..

USFN: What type of a offense do you like to run the most?
Butler:  Actually the spread offense that USF runs, we ran that same offense,  and that's why I felt so comfortable in going there. I think its a great offense to run.

USFN: When you line up on offense, is there a type of defense you like to see when you get to the line?
Butler: I couldn't really tell you on that one, the offense that we ran everybody in  the whole stadium knew I was getting the ball. so what ever they line dup, it didn't make a difference.

What is your favorite play  to run?
Butler:  Well we call it a zone read. I get the ball and  can make what ever cut that's open, we ran that a lot.

USFN: What is your favorite move?
Butler:  There's this one move I like, I use it  a lot, I use my speed on this move to the outside, Its easier to show then to tell you. but I go to the outside and down shift a gear, and when they come in speed up, and blow by them. My favorite thing to do is to break a long run.

USFN: What are some of your strengths as a player?
Butler: I have a chance to make plays a lot, and with my size, I have that ability to go to the next level  and compete in college. As a running back I'm a good receiver, I also line up at receiver so i can line up in the slot too.

USFN: Is there anything you want to work on?
Butler:  I do want to gain a little weight, that's pretty much  it, I got speed, if I gain a few more pounds I'll be set. I'd like to play at 190 pounds. I also like to work on my run blocking.

USFN: Is there a player on another level, college or pro that you model your game after?
Butler:  No not really to tell you the truth. I like Randy moss's game when he's playing, but I don't model myself after him.

USFN: What are your current height, weight and 40 yard time?
Butler:  Right now I'm 5'11, just under 6 foot, and 175 pounds, I  average a 4.4, my fastest was a 4.35, but that wasn't at a combine

USFN: Do you play any other sports?
Butler:  I run track and play a little basketball.

USFN: What are you going to do to stay in shape before you get to Campus?
Butler:  Run track, and work out.

USFN: Do they have any problems redshirting?
Butler:  I don't have any problems with it, but I wouldn't like to, because I feel like I can go out there and compete. I don't mind redshirting, but I don't want to, and like to have a good chance to compete.

USFN: Do you enjoy playing special teams?
Butler:  Oh yeah, I return both punts and kicks. I like kick returns more, but I think punt returns are easier, but I'm good at both.

USFN: What do they plan to accomplish while here at USF?
Butler: I want to be an all around guy, to be the best player that I can be for the Bulls, and I like to major in sports management and getting my degree id very important to me..

USFN: What three things come to your head when I say USF?
Butler: I see a future BCS there, and a championship in the next 2-3 years,  a great program, and a future powerhouse.

USFN: What team are they most looking forward to playing against in the next 4 years?
Butler:  West Virginia,  and Louisville.

USFN: How are your grades, how are you toward qualifying.
Butler:  I need to finish out two classes, to get the full credits then I'm all set. My core is just over a 2.2, and I'm working on  my qualifying score on my SAT, but I'm real close, but I took it again a few weeks ago. I took the ACT this past Saturday, everything will fall into place, and I'll get in..

USFN: Are you excited to get to campus?
Butler:  Oh yeah, I cannot wait. "Tell everyone in Tampa that the American Dream is coming"
