Josh Bellamy Profile
USFNation.com: Are you glad that all the Signing Day hype is finally over?
Josh Bellamy: Yeah I'm happy, now the phones not ringing anymore.
USFN: Why did you choose USF?
Bellamy: Really the main reason was coach Leavitt, and my position coach, coach Franks. I felt that I can learn a lot from him. That, and I want to win a National championship at South Florida.
USFN: What are some of the things that you like about USF?
Bellamy: I loved the weight room, and the practice field, they're first class. That and the chance to play in Raymond James Stadium.
USFN: Have you been following the Bulls this season?
Bellamy: Yeah, I went to a couple of games, and watched them a lot on TV.
USFN: How long have the Bulls been recruiting you, and who were involved?
Bellamy: They been recruiting me for awhile, coach Frey mainly recruited me, but he went to West Virginia. Also Coach Leavitt and Coach Franks.
USFN: Which coach made the biggest impression on you during your recruitment?
Bellamy: The ones who made the biggest impression were coach Franks, and Coach Leavitt. With Coach Franks, It doesn't get much better, he coached Fred Taylor, and Leavitt, I never met a coach like that.
USFN: Do you know any of the current players on the Bulls?
Bellamy: I know Brad Chauncy he went to my school, and I met a couple of the players when I went on my visit. I also met a lot of the guys that committed also. We had a lot of fun, Quenton Washington, Tyson Butler, Tyson, he's goofy, and Cha-cha Sinclair. I want to get to know Mike Ford when I get there.
USFN: What position are the Bulls recruiting you for, and do you play any other positions?
Bellamy: They're recruiting me for running back. I played receiver and safety. I only played like three games at defense, but I had like 32 tackles, and two interceptions, I also picked up a fumble and scored a touchdown.
USFN: Are you flexible, and willing to play at a position of need and excel at it?
Bellamy: Yeah, I'll play wherever they need me.
USFN: What type of a offense do you like to run the most?
Bellamy: All my life I been running out of the I-formation, so I like that, but it doesn't matter I can run out of any formation.
USFN: What type of defense do you like to see when you get to the line?
Bellamy: Yeah I like running against the 4-3. Most the time they only have one free linebacker and I'm one on one with them. all I got to do is make a move and bust out of there.
What is your favorite play to run?
Bellamy: I like to run counter plays and sweeps. Let me use my speed. That and running routes When I get isolated one on one with a linebacker, I love that. At the USF camp coach Franks was watching me go against some linebackers. I don't think a linebacker can guard me. There some out there with speed, but in high school when I do a fly route, not many can.
USFN: What are some of your strengths as a player?
Bellamy: My agility and my speed. I' can also catch real good, I run routes like a receiver..
USFN: What is your favorite thing to do on the field?
Bellamy: I like to do everything, run catch, score
USFN: Is there anything you want to work on?
Bellamy: I'm always working on something, I work out every day really. I run track to work on my speed. I also work with my trainer, I work out with him. We do receiver drills, and agility drills, defensive back drills, I do something everyday.
USFN: Is there a player on another level, college or pro that you model your game after?
Bellamy: It depends, when I'm in my running back mode I like to be like Reggie Bush, when I'm at receiver, I like to be like Teddy Ginn.
USFN: What are your current height, weight and 40 yard time?
Bellamy: I'm 6'0-'6'1, and I weigh 185 pounds. When I went to the Florida camp this summer I was clocked at a 4.41, and this past Saturday, they clocked at 4.43
USFN: Do you play any other sports?
Bellamy: I run Track, I actually got a meet this Saturday at Jefferson. I run the 100, 200, and the 4x100 relay.
USFN: What are you going to do to stay in shape before you get to Campus?
Bellamy: I work out Ricky Williams, he used to play for my school, and also played for the Arena league
USFN: Do they have any problems redshirting?
Bellamy: No, That could work out best for some people. My brother redshirted, and he picked up a lot of weight, and came on strong. I can see myself doing the same thing.
USFN: Do you enjoy playing special teams, and do you return kicks?
Bellamy: Yeah I do kick returns and punt returns. I play everything, I was MVP of the year at our banquett, so I didn't play a lot of kick off coverage because I'd get tired.
USFN: What do they plan to accomplish while here at USF?
Bellamy: What everybody does, I want to win the Heisman. That's going to take a lot of hard work, I want to get over there and play. I want to win, I wan to win a Bowl game, win the title, win that big bowl.I wan to be number one.
USFN: What three things come to your head when I say
Bellamy: Academics, football, that's all I can think of right now.
USFN: What team are they most looking forward to playing against in the next 4 years?
Bellamy: Florida because they recruiting me too and offered me a scholarship, and I turned them down to come to South Florida. West Virginia, some guys I know from around here went there. I want to play Rutgers, and Louisville too. There's a lot of teams I want to play. I like to play Florida State too.
USFN: How are your grades, how are you toward qualifying.
Bellamy: I'm doing good, i'm taking night classes right now. coach Franks is staying on me like crazy, makes sure i take every test that comes out. I got GPA of 2.5-2.6 and I'm waiting for my test score to come back. I think I did pretty good, but those test are tricky. got a 16 the last time I took the test. Im right there
