Orane Chin

New Bulls coach Stan Heath didn't waste any time during the start of the spring signing period last week. After making visits to checkout the local talent Coach Heath hosted his first prospect at USF this past weekend, 3 star forward Orane Chin from Miramar HS in Miami.

"The visit went pretty well. Chris Howard was my host, and he was a really cool person." said Chin, "We took a tour of the city, went to went to their spring football game, and checked out the campus, it was real nice. The facilities were nice; they had a good weight room."

Chin said that although he has only been to Tampa once before, and he really enjoyed this visit.

"Going to the spring game and hanging out with the players that was a lot of fun. I loved the city itself, it was great and I also got to play a little bit while I was there."

We asked Chin how his USF visit compared to his visit at UMass?

"The UMass visit was nice, but the USF visit was a lot more fun".

The 6'7, 190 pound Chin averaged 25 points, 14 rebounds and 1.8 steals per game last season has been garnering plenty of interest lately, and could be a perfect fit to compliment center Kentrell Gransberry.

"There has been a lot more interest lately but UCF, St. Joe's, and USF have been showing the most interest."

Does Chin who was named All-Broward County Class 6A first team have a favorite or a top three?

"USF would be in my top three, also St. Joe's and Kansas."

Chin who transferred to Miramar played his junior year at Krop High School where he averaged around 17 points and 7 rebounds a game as a junior. He also added what he is looking for in a program.

"I'm looking for a place that I can play right away, a program that is in a good conference, and most of all that I get along with the coaches."

Chin said that even though he has talked to Coach Heath over the phone this was his first in person meeting.

"I loved the coaches at USF." said Chin, "I thought Coach Heath was pretty cool and an honest guy. I really enjoyed meeting him"

Does the Broward All-Star forward think that the type of game that Coach Heath runs fits his style of play?

"Oh most definitely, Coach Heath's up-tempo style fits me very well."

Chin can play either forward position or guard and can score from anywhere on the court.

"I'm very versatile, I can play multiple positions, guard, forward, but I'm really a scorer."

You mentioned playing early as a concern, what schools do you think you have the best shot to play early?

"Well South Florida would be the best situation. Of the other schools that I mentioned, it would probably be Virginia after that."

Chin is originally from Jamaica but now lives in Miami compared Tampa to where he lives now after his visit.

"The two are  pretty similar, but it's a lot prettier in Tampa."

We asked Chin if location make a difference in his decision.

"No, not really as much as the other things I mentioned."

Chin did say that there was one thing he learned from his USF visit that he didn't know before coming to Tampa.

"Yeah, I didn't know that there were that many students there, or that it was that diverse of a campus there."

How did the talented swingman rate his visit to USF?

"I'd say my visit to Tampa was a 10"

With the spring period just beginning, Chin will have a busy month ahead

"I'm trying to arrange visits with Kansas, Arizona, and possibly Virginia over the next few weeks"

As to grades, Chin claims to be already qualified.

"Yeah, in that area I'm all set to go."

With a busy month ahead when would the 3 star prospect like to make a decision by?

"I can't really say just yet, but probably by the end of April early May."
