Lake Worth OL Rates USF Visit a Perfect 10

Read on and find out about Joe Looney's visit to Tampa. Not only did he enjoy it, but so did his teammate, 4-star QB Star Jackson. Also get updates on 3 other prospects on the USF recruiting board, including FAMU High running back Richard Watson. Only on USFNation.com!

Joe Looney is one of the top two-way linemen in Florida this year, he will be a four year starter at Lake Worth high school and earned all-area honors as a junior. He recently made his first visit to Tampa and walked away very impressed.

"The visit went real good." Said Looney, "We toured the campus, the facilities and took a trip to Raymond James."

It was his first trip to the Bay Area and he said several things surprised him.

"I had never been to Tampa or the campus, so seeing the facilities was my favorite part. After seeing that I knew that USF is for real. Everything was top-notch."

At 6-foot-3.5 and 315 pounds Looney has been getting interest from all over the country he currently has 18 offers, but the big man says he has about 10 that he is seriously considering right now. In no order they are: Rutgers, USF, Wake Forest, West Virginia, Louisville, Alabama, Minnesota, UCF and South Carolina.

Not only did Looney himself have a good time, but he said his teammate and coach also went on the trip and both walked away with the same feeling, and when that teammate happens to be Star Jackson, it bodes well for the Bulls coaching staff.

Jackson, who is one of the top Pro-Style QB's in the state has recently shown new found interest in South Florida after his visit. He was quoted in another Scout.com story as saying, "The visit to USF went great. They showed me the campus, and I saw some of the players after work-outs. I talked to their strength and conditioning coach and their head coach [Jim Leavitt]. It was pretty cool. I liked it."

He also went on to say that USF is one of the 6 schools that he is considering. If the Bulls could pull off a shocker and land both Joe Looney and Star Jackson, it would most likely be the biggest impact signing of the '08 class. USF is looking to land a top-tier QB and quality help on the O-line this year and these two are near the top of the board at their respective positions.

More updates:

RB Richard Watson, Tallahassee FL- This is a name that Bulls fans have been waiting to hear about. He is the top running back on the latest USFNation hot 20 and was recently offered by the Bulls during the spring evaluation period.

Watson has a pounding running style similar to that of the Chiefs Larry Johnson. At 6-foot-1, 220 pounds he runs a 4.5 while wearing down the defense running between the tackles. Watson tells USFNation that the main schools he's looking at right now are Nebraska, Arkansas, USF, Ohio State, Georgia Tech and UCF. All of the schools mentioned have offered. Watson says that he is in the process of deciding which schools he will visit this summer.

Since the Bulls offered relatively late compared to the other names on his list, it could put them at a disadvantage. The best way to tell where USF stands will come in late July when they hold their annual Senior Showcase camp, if Watson makes the trip to Tampa then its safe to say the Bulls are in the mix. We'll let you know when Watson schedules his camp dates for this summer.

Cory Grissom,Troup HS, Georgia- Grissom is a name that we mentioned a week ago in the last Recruiting Quick Hits. He is one of the top D-tackles on the Bulls board and was offered about three weeks ago. He is 6-foot-2, 290 pounds but plays more like a defensive end, he is quick and is a pass-rusher from the tackle position. Even Grissom himself says his style is a little unorthodox.

"Even though I play inside I model my game after Dwight Freeney. I know he plays end, but I love his speed and the way he attacks the quarterback. I watch a lot of game film on the techniques he uses."

Right now Grissom has several offers, but there are 4 at the top of his list.

"I like Georgia, Arkansas, Florida State and USF."

This summer Grissom has already attended the UGA one-day camp and his only other camp will be USF. That is if he can get a ride.

"I talked to my coach about going, the only thing stopping me right now is a way to get to Tampa."

If he makes it or not this summer, Grissom tells USFNation that he will also take an official visit to USF this fall.

OL Steven Robinson, Tallahassee, FL- Here is a follow up on a prospect we have featured and a recruit who made the USFNation hot 20. Robinson tells us that he was recently offered by UGA, FSU, Wake and USF. Coach Canales is the one who extended the offer for the Bulls.

"I like USF right now, they are one of the schools recruiting me the hardest."

Robinson said that he is only going to one camp this year and that is the ‘Down & Dirty' in Gainesville. Already this summer he has his bench up to 425 and his squat at 505, he says he has not maxed out since spring and thinks those numbers will be up about 25 pounds by the end of summer.
