Patrick Nixon Profile
The USF Senior showcase will host some of the best talent in the state and beyond this weekend. It'll also give some of the top prospects a chance to showcase their skills and a chance for the staff to further evaluate them. One player they will be paying extra attention to is Ed White stand out DB/WR Patrick Nixon. With seniors Mike Jenkins and Trae Williams graduating this year, cornerback is a high priority for the Bulls and Nixon is an outstanding prospect with 10.6 speed, and has all the skills to fill the need.
"I'm going to USF this weekend for the Showcase camp and I'm really looking forward to it and going against the talent that will be there."
Last season Nixon, 5'11-175 pounds had over 70 tackles, 7 interceptions on defense, and also had 6 touchdowns and over 500 yards of offense while playing with a new QB. Nixon has also been granted an extra year of eligibility and will be an early enrollee this December.
"I didn't know I would have the extra year, but I attended a private school and some of my classes didn't transfer, so that gave me the extra year, but I'll be done in December so that' will be good."
The extra year didn't seem to hut Nixon, but the extra year actually has given teams extra time to evaluate him and has bolstered his stock.
"The extra year has helped out in the recruiting sense. It's helped out a lot. There have been more schools that have been talking to me lately. A lot more then last year."
With an impressive list of offers and schools showing interest, Nixon said he has a list of favorites.
"My top schools in no particular order are Florida, USF, Illinois and Indiana."
Nixon has already been to an Illinois camp in June where Dan Disch former coach of Ed White is recruiting Nixon. Recently Nixon attended the Florida's "Friday Night Lights camp" and impressed the coaches with a 4.3 40 time.
"I went to the Friday Night Lights and ran a 4.35," said Nixon. "A lot of coaches were coming up and talking to me and telling me how good I did."
Nixon has been in contact with Troy Douglas, USF's defensive backs coach. "I speak to coach Douglas, and we talk about me playing defense for them," said Nixon. "I really can't wait to this weekend. It'll be a good opportunity for me."
Nixon said he hasn't been to USF before but is looking forward to it and knows a few players there.
Nixon said he'll be attending the camp with his brother who didn't play football last year but is going to the camps with Patrick looking for offers. Nixon also said what he's looking for in a program.
"Really I'm looking for playing time and academics I'm looking for a school with a good mechanical and engineering program."
We asked if after one of these camps if Patrick would commit.
"Yeah I'm in a position to, but most likely I'll wait to make a decision until this fall when the season starts to see how everything plays out."
As for the rest of the summer, Nixon doesn't have a schedule set but has an idea of where he will be taking visits too.
"I haven't set any visits yet, but in the next few weeks I'll set up visits with Florida, Illinois, USF, and Indiana."
Nixon is an outstanding DB prospect that has everything the Bulls are looking for in a top DB prospect. He has the size, the skills and speed to spare, and would be a great addition to the Bulls defensive backfield.
We'll be sure to keep you updated on any developments with outstanding prospect Patrick Nixon at this weekend's Showcase camp.
